Warehouse Engineer

Tennant Company is currently seeking a highly motivated Warehouse Operations Engineer to join our team in Louisville, KY to help us improve our warehouse operations, design, and processes. We are looking for an experienced QualityEngineer, who has great communication skills and a keen analytical mindset, tosupport the operation's mission to be the center of operational excellence, delivering the highest level of customer satisfaction by focusing on continuous improvement activities and root cause problem solving.

GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Support and recommend warehouse stocking strategies.
  • Stocking plans.
  • Inventory slotting exercises for optimizing capacity and throughput.
  • Improving material flow.
  • Evaluate storage systems.
  • Racking address system.
  • Maintaining Auto CAD layout of warehouse.
  • Identify, support, and lead actions for implementing cost improvement/lean projects, events, or Kaizens.
  • Support the need for and capability of capital investments through statistical analysis.
  • Develop business cases for productivity/automation as required.
  • Manage projects to develop new technologies & processes.
  • Support action items from Tier I, II, & III meetings.
  • Support Lean solutions - waste reduction - share successes with other plants.
  • Create & implement standard work to drive consistency and improve productivity.
  • Applies Six Sigma, Lean tools, and techniques.
  • Collaborate with Continuous Improvement Manager to assess the operations and develop CI vision and plans for the site.
  • Support New Product Engineering team and new product launches for distribution.
  • Maintain a floor presence to show support for the operations team and fosters positive working relationships.
  • Support the estimation of production rates, staffing requirements, and related costs to provide information for management decisions.
  • Enact engineered poka-yoke solutions on reoccurring quality issues.
  • Analyzes, synthesizes, and takes actionable insights from various types of raw data sources (sales, inventory, warehouse transaction logs, etc.).
  • Owns the design and development of engineering solutions for complex material handling challenges considering human/equipment interactions for the Louisville Distribution Center.
  • Leads and coordinates concept and design development efforts for optimal solutions for the Louisville Distribution Center, through equipment specification, material flow, process design, ergonomics, associate experience, operational considerations, and site layout.
  • Works closely with vendors, suppliers, and other teams to create innovative solutions.
  • Conducts evaluations of designs in partnership with Safety and operations.
  • Creates a state-of-the-art fulfillment center design, including using various types of pallet rack, shelving, conveyor, automation, different forklift types, VLMs/carousels, etc.
  • Develops business cases for productivity, automation and new designs within our distribution operation as required.
  • Process mapping and/or creating VSMs of current-state fulfillment processes and improved processes, implementing the changes and quantifying savings.
  • Conducts Best Practice audits in our distribution center.
  • Servs as an industry expert in warehousing and material handling.
  • Researches and stays up to date on the latest trends and innovations in the warehousing world.

REQUIRED SKILLS:

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • CAD / engineering drawing knowledge.
  • Ability to use Microsoft Office programs including Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and MS Project, CAD Software.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Ability to communicate and collaborate with peers and leaders to document and improve key processes.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE & EDUCATION:

  • Engineerdegree from an accredited institution-is required
  • 3+ years of experience in a distribution environment (manufacturing also preferred).
  • Experience working in an ISO certified environment preferred.
  • Strong experience in Continuous Improvement and Lean manufacturing.
  • Strong experience using poka-yoke thought processes and root cause corrective action.
  • Possess statistical knowledge and the ability to apply statistics to product and process improvement projects
  • Proven track record of innovation, ingenuity, creativity, attention to detail, ownership, integrity, accountability, and willingness to seek challenging tasks/projects.
  • Six Sigma certification and/or Formal Lean Training / Waste Reduction preferred

REQUIRED PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • This position is on site.
  • Mustregularly lift and/or moved up to 10 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move40 pounds.
  • Specific vision abilities include close vision, color vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
  • Regularly required tostand, use hands to grip, handle or feel objects, tools or controls and reach with hands and arms.
  • Frequently required to walk, talk, and hear.

SAFETY REQUIREMENTS:

  • Must be able to wear safety glasses, steel toed shoes, protective gloves, and hearing protection.
