Cedars-Sinai Lead Workplace Investigator in Los Angeles, California

Job Description

The Lead Workplace Investigator promotes and supports Cedars-Sinai's compliance with federal and state labor and employment laws, and provides expertise and leadership in the investigation of workplace complaints of unprofessional conduct. This position leads and conducts investigations of allegations of potential violations of Cedars-Sinai policies concerning discrimination, harassment and retaliation, as well as other allegations.

  • Investigates complex Equal Employment Opportunity (EEO) complaints, other possible Cedars-Sinai policy violations, and other employment-related issues. Conducts witness interviews, compiles and reviews relevant documentation, analyzes evidence, prepares reports and summaries, and provides appropriate recommendations and mentorship to management.

  • Develops and implements an investigation plan for each case; determines method, order, and timing of interviews and evidence to gather. Conducts complex analysis and produces high quality written investigation summaries and reports with candid conclusions and findings.

  • Conducts investigations thoroughly and fairly by collecting and preserving all relevant evidence; coordinates and conducts lawful and fair investigative interviews promptly and thoroughly, using effective techniques for communicating and asking questions in ways that improve clarity, information flow, and reliability of information with those being interviewed. Creates appropriate documentation of investigation steps and information gathered.

  • Gathers facts and develops evidence to complete investigations by reviewing records and other relevant files, acquiring witness statements, assessing witness credibility, establishing proof of facts and evidence, and reviewing the case with other stakeholders.

  • Independently manages assigned casework and brings investigations to closure promptly and definitively. Monitors and analyzes casework trends and provide strategic recommendations to HR Lines of Business Partners to proactively address systemic issues.

  • Provides stakeholders with information about the investigatory process and applicable rights and policies, and treats individuals engaged in the complaint process with sensitivity and respect. Maintains timely and professional communication with all involved parties and key stakeholders. Partners as needed with others within Cedars-Sinai to gather information and complete the fact-finding process.

  • Presents oral and/or written comprehensive updates regarding findings and investigation status to organizational leaders, and others on a need-to-know basis.

  • Keeps detailed, consistent, and accurate records for periodic production of metrics.

  • May be required to participate in depositions, court trials, arbitration hearings, and government agency hearings.

  • Serves as a subject matter expert and resource to the Workplace Investigations team.

Qualifications

Education:

  • High School Diploma/GED.

  • Bachelor's (HR or related field) or Juris Doctor (J.D.) Degree of Law preferred.

Experience:

  • Five (5) years in Compliance, Human Resources, Litigation and/or other legal experience required.

License/Certification:

  • Licensed Attorney in California, preferred.
