Los Alamos National Laboratory Operations Support Specialist 2 in Los Alamos, New Mexico

What You Will Do

The Sigma Operations Group (Sigma-OPS) is seeking an energetic, customer-focused individual to join our Programmatic Maintenance team. The Operations Support Specialist will provide professional programmatic planning, scheduling, and operational support, with particular attention to data entry and analysis for logistical support of programmatic maintenance. The selected candidate will be expected to operate with initiative, professionalism, dependability, and flexibility within a dynamic organization.

Sigma Division focuses on materials science and engineering, emphasizing metallurgical processes and research in support of the experimental testing program at Los Alamos. Sigma-OPS is a customer-based group that supports the programmatic operational needs of Sigma Division.

Operations Support Specialist 2

Specific duties of the position include but are not limited to the following:

  • Assist with planning and scheduling of programmatic maintenance actions and activities.

  • Establish programmatic maintenance protocols on Computerized Maintenance Management Software (CMMS).

  • Ensure active safety and security documentation is utilized for all programmatic maintenance.

  • Communicate programmatic maintenance intervals and priorities with team members.

  • Coordinate logistics behind programmatic maintenance activities.

  • Perform data entry and modifications for programmatic maintenance actions within CMMS.

  • Provide status updates to corresponding asset owners.

  • Provide customer service to internal customers and external customers.

  • Work under limited direction; receives general instructions on new assignments.

What You Need

Minimum Job Requirements:

  • Knowledge of maintenance objectives and practices.

  • Experience adapting visual work into technical writing.

  • Knowledge of documentation quality assurance, including document controls and records management

  • Ability to follow and inform improvements in procedures, policies, and processes.

  • Knowledge of the Laboratory's security and safeguards policies, practices, and procedures.

  • Experience with maintenance tracking systems and overall procurement methods.

  • Experience and skill in conducting research, investigating alternative solutions, and recommending solutions on problems affecting operations and operational quality assurance.

  • Demonstrated experience working effectively under pressure of deadlines, interruptions, and changing priorities, and the ability to follow multiple tasks to completion.

  • Demonstrated experience in decision making, organizing, and prioritizing tasks, and taking initiative.

  • Demonstrated excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills; demonstrated ability to interact with all levels of internal and external personnel and customers; strong customer service and teaming skills.

  • The ability to receive a Q-Clearance, which typically requires U.S. citizenship.

Education/Experience Required: Position requires a Associate's Degree in a relevant field from an accredited institution and 4 years of directly related experience; or, an equivalent combination of education and experience directly related to the occupation.

Desired Qualifications:

  • An active Q clearance.

  • Experience with security and safeguards policies and procedures.

  • Familiarity with the Sigma Facility.

  • Knowledge of cybersecurity and compliance implications in multi-user, multi-platform, and secure computing environments.

  • Demonstrated skills in conducting research, investigating alternative solutions, and recommending solutions to problems.

Work Environment

Work Location: The work location for this position is onsite and located in Los Alamos, NM. All work locations are at the discretion of management.

Position commitment: Regular appointment employees are required to serve a period of continuous service in their current position in order to be eligible to apply for posted jobs throughout the Laboratory. If an employee has not served the time required, they may only apply for Laboratory jobs with the documented approval of their Division Leader. The position commitment for this position is 1 year.

Additional Details

Directive 206.2 - Employment with Triad requires a favorable decision by NNSA indicating employee is suitable under NNSA Supplemental Directive 206.2. Please note that this requirement applies only to citizens of the United States. Foreign nationals are subject to a similar requirement under DOE Order 142.3A.

Clearance: Q (Position will be cleared to this level). Selected applicants will be subject to a background investigation conducted by or on behalf of the Federal Government, and must meet eligibility requirements* for access to classified matter. This position requires a Q clearance. and obtaining such clearance requires US Citizenship except in extremely rare circumstances. Dependent upon the position, additional authorization to access classified information may be required, which may or may not be available to dual citizens. Receipt of a Q clearance and additional access authorization ultimately is a decision of the Federal Government and not of Triad.

*Eligibility requirements: To obtain a clearance, an individual must be at least 18 years of age; U.S. citizenship is required except in very limited circumstances. See DOE Order 472.2 (https://www.directives.doe.gov/directives-documents/400-series/0472.2-BOrder-chg1-pgchg) for additional information.

New-Employment Drug Test: The Laboratory requires successful applicants to complete a new-employment drug test and maintains a substance abuse policy that includes random drug testing. Although New Mexico and other states have legalized the use of marijuana, use and possession of marijuana remain illegal under federal law. A positive drug test for marijuana will result in termination of employment, even if the use was pre-offer.

Regular position: Term status Laboratory employees applying for regular-status positions are converted to regular status.

Internal Applicants: Regular appointment employees who have served the required period of continuous service in their current position are eligible to apply for posted jobs throughout the Laboratory.
