Los Alamos National Laboratory MSS-WC Group Leader (Maintenance Manager 4) in Los Alamos, New Mexico

What You Will Do

The Maintenance Manager 4 (MM4) over Maintenance and Site Services - Work Control (MSS-WC) will report to the Maintenance and Site Services Division Leader (MSS-DL). As the Group Leader you will team with the CMMS Group Leader (MSS-CMMS), first line managers, staff and the MSS Division leadership team to provide leadership and management for the work control group. You will team with your leadership team and staff to assist/supplement them in ensuring effective program execution, sound fiscal stewardship, adherence to safety and security policies, program development, personnel development, and other business administrative issues. You will drive the long-range strategic planning process for maintenance by overseeing and managing the Work Control program for the maintenance of equipment, machinery, buildings, and/or other facilities, manage programs including the Uptake database and Planner training (qualifications and Red Vector), and ensure common processes and procedures are utilized by deployed groups.

What You Need

Minimum Job Requirements:

Facility Management

In-depth knowledge of and experience with facility management including systems engineering design and maintenance, safety/authorization basis, configuration management programs, work control, facility control systems, major construction projects, and upgrades and renovations. In-depth understanding of work hazards, safety practices, operating configuration, and lock-out/tag-out policies and procedures. Thorough knowledge of plant operating practices and procedures. Demonstrated knowledge of requirements for Integrated Safety Management, Formality of Operations, Conduct of Maintenance, Conduct of Engineering, and Safety Basis. Demonstrated experience with nuclear and/or non-nuclear facility work control processes.

Maintenance Operations

In-depth understanding of and experience with maintenance work control planning and scheduling processes and procedures. Knowledgeable in requirements for planning and scheduling maintenance work, developing and issuing work order procedures, instructions, and integrated work documents. Demonstrated experience and skill in identifying problem areas, investigating alternative solutions, and determining action to be performed on problems affecting performance. In-depth knowledge of government regulations and reporting requirement. Demonstrated experience and skill in identifying problem areas, investigating alternative solutions, and determining action to be performed on problems affecting performance.

Leadership

Proven experience and skill in management, supervision, and human resources administration of assigned employees. Demonstrated experience and skill developing and implementing organizational strategies and objectives. Demonstrated experience negotiating, change thinking of, or gain acceptance from peers, upper management, and customers in sensitive situations without damage to the relationships. Demonstrated ability to provide strong leadership, mentorship, prioritization, and management of assigned employees in a collaborative and participative environment to build strong teams. Exceptional skill in the preparation and presentation of oral and written reports.

Education/Experience: Position requires a Bachelor's Degree from an accredited institution and 8 years related experience; or, an equivalent combination of education and experience directly related to the occupation.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Industry certifications including International Facility Management Association (IFMA), Certified Facility Manager (CFM), Procedure Professional Association (PPA), or Energy Facility Contractors Group (EFCOG).

  • Familiar with CMMS/Asset Suites.

  • Master's Degree from an accredited institution and 15 years related experience.

  • In depth knowledge of the Laboratory's organizational structure.

  • Demonstrated experience with LANL business systems for management and administration of personnel including timekeeping, payroll, budgeting, travel, training and certification, performance reviews, and payroll policies and procedures.

  • Demonstrated in depth knowledge of LANL maintenance program policy and procedures.

  • Demonstrated ability to prepare and present safety and technical briefings to large groups of a diverse workforce representative of all types and levels of workers.

  • Experience in LANL facility operations, engineering and/or maintenance.

  • Active Q clearance.

Work Location: The work location for this position is onsite and located in Los Alamos, NM. All work locations are at the discretion of management.

Position commitment: Regular appointment employees are required to serve a period of continuous service in their current position in order to be eligible to apply for posted jobs throughout the Laboratory. If an employee has not served the time required, they may only apply for Laboratory jobs with the documented approval of their Division Leader. The position commitment for this position is 1 year.

Additional Details

Directive 206.2 - Employment with Triad requires a favorable decision by NNSA indicating employee is suitable under NNSA Supplemental Directive 206.2 (https://directives.nnsa.doe.gov/supplemental-directive/sd-0206-0002) . Please note that this requirement applies only to citizens of the United States. Foreign nationals are subject to a similar requirement under DOE Order 142.3A.

Clearance: Q (Position will be cleared to this level). Selected applicants will be subject to a background investigation conducted by or on behalf of the Federal Government, and must meet eligibility requirements* for access to classified matter. This position requires a Q clearance. and obtaining such clearance requires US Citizenship except in extremely rare circumstances. Dependent upon the position, additional authorization to access classified information may be required, which may or may not be available to dual citizens. Receipt of a Q clearance and additional access authorization ultimately is a decision of the Federal Government and not of Triad.

*Eligibility requirements: To obtain a clearance, an individual must be at least 18 years of age; U.S. citizenship is required except in very limited circumstances. New-Employment Drug Test: The Laboratory requires successful applicants to complete a new-employment drug test and maintains a substance abuse policy that includes random drug testing. Although New Mexico and other states have legalized the use of marijuana, use and possession of marijuana remain illegal under federal law. A positive drug test for marijuana will result in termination of employment, even if the use was pre-offer.

Regular position: Term status Laboratory employees applying for regular-status positions are converted to regular status.

Internal Applicants: Regular appointment employees who have served the required period of continuous service in their current position are eligible to apply for posted jobs throughout the Laboratory. Incentive Compensation Program: Position is eligible to participate in the Triad Incentive Compensation Program. You must be in an eligible position for a minimum of 3 months, before July 1st and remain in an eligible position as of the end of the fiscal year, September 30th. The annual distribution is prorated based on the number of months in the eligible position.
