What You Will Do

Detonator Production (DP) is seeking a highly qualified candidate to be the First Line Manager for the Detonator Production Product and Manufacturing Software Management group (DP-1). The First Line Manager (FLM) supports the Group Leader by providing technical leadership and management for a group of Technical Project Managers (TPMs) who lead detonator production projects and a team of technical professionals that support the Division's Secure Operations Management System (SOMS). The DP-1 FLM reports directly to the DP-1 Group Leader.

The DP Division is the premier production agency assigned to produce war reserve (WR) detonators for our nation's nuclear stockpile security mission. The Division is part of LANL's Weapons Production Directorate. DP is comprised of a team of motivated, highly skilled technical and operational support staff working in an integrated format. The organization is centered on high-rigor manufacturing operations to produce precise, safe, and reliable WR products. DP partners closely with customers and stakeholders (such as the National Nuclear Security Administration [NNSA]), design agencies (LANL, Sandia National Lab [SNL], and Lawrence Livermore National Lab [LLNL]), and LANL program management organizations to deliver on challenging national security objectives. DP upholds vigorous teamwork, personal integrity, respect in the workplace, and continuous improvement in operations, technical excellence, safety, and security.

The successful candidate will demonstrate experience and knowledge that supports the DP-1 Group Leader in providing effective personnel management/leadership and technical program management guidance in the following areas:

Detonator Technical Project Management Team DP-1's TPM team works closely with DP-2 Product Engineers to lead the execution of WR production and the development of detonator projects. The DP-1 FLM will demonstrate proficient knowledge in nuclear weapons programs, program management for electro-explosive devices going to stockpile, and in Primavera P6 schedule use. The DP-1 FLM provides guidance and enables effective coordination on component development, qualification, and production execution activities within DP and external to LANL, as prescribed by Defense Programs Business Process System requirements, including the nuclear weapon product realization process and NNSA Weapon Quality Policy NAP 401.1A.

Operations Management System DP-1's database administrators support and manage the DP Division's primary execution system used for collection of all quality and manufacturing data required for product sale.

What You Need

Minimum Job Requirements:

Leadership: Demonstrated accomplishments applying DP and Laboratory values and behaviors while guiding high-consequence project activities that successfully met deliverables and major milestones through team building, sound coaching practices, successful staff development, and fostering a continuous learning environment.

Management: Record of accomplishment leading technical personnel in a challenging production manufacturing environment. Ability to provide personnel with effective career coaching and career development. Demonstrated ability and commitment to uphold accountability among staff while adhering to Lab policies for personnel management.

Technical Knowledge: Expert knowledge of engineering processes and principles as applied to nuclear weapon components. Experience with the development and implementation of new capabilities in manufacturing execution system(s).

Technical Experience: Demonstrated experience in product qualification within the nuclear weapons enterprise.

Program/Project Management: A record of achievement in developing schedules, managing risks, working across the nuclear weapons enterprise, and integrating projects for high-consequence products. Experience coordinating multiple project campaigns across various organizations, while effectively balancing resources and priorities. Experience working with the Primavera P6 scheduling tool.

Strategic Planning: Experience planning and defining project scope through collaboration with one or more Nuclear Weapons Enterprise design agencies (LLNL, SNL and LANL), subject matter experts, and project managers.

Communication: Ability toconvey clear, unambiguous directions to technical personnel, as well as with all levels of DP staff and external organizations. Demonstrated strong interpersonal, presentation, and written skills through experience in effective briefings and presentations.

Customer Focus: Demonstrated experience in developing and nurturing effective working relationships with internal and external customers.

Education/Experience : Position requires a bachelor's degree in a related field from an accredited institution and 5 years of related experience; or, an equivalent combination of education and experience directly related to the occupation.

Desired Qualifications:

Manufacturing: Demonstrated experience working in a Weapon or High Hazard manufacturing environment and knowledge of production process workflows. Knowledge of bills of material requirements and inventory tracking.

Nature of Work: Familiarity and/or experience with DOE National Security Enterprise sites and business practices. Familiarity with DOE classification directives.

Program requirements: Demonstrated experience with the Defense Programs Business Process System requirements, including the nuclear weapons product realization process. Familiarity with NNSA Weapon Quality Policy NAP 401.1A or similar quality standards is highly desired.

Education: Degree in an engineering discipline such as manufacturing, mechanical, electrical, materials, nuclear, aerospace or chemical engineering is desired.

A Master of Science degree in an engineering discipline is desired.

Active Q Clearance is preferred.

Additional Details

Directive 206.2 - Employment with Triad requires a favorable decision by NNSA indicating employee is suitable under NNSA Supplemental Directive 206.2 (https://directives.nnsa.doe.gov/supplemental-directive/sd-0206-0002) . Clearance: Q (Position will be cleared to this level). Selected applicants will be subject to a background investigation conducted by or on behalf of the Federal Government, and must meet eligibility requirements* for access to classified matter. This position requires a Q clearance. and obtaining such clearance requires US Citizenship except in extremely rare circumstances. Dependent upon the position, additional authorization to access classified information may be required, which may or may not be available to dual citizens. Receipt of a Q clearance and additional access authorization ultimately is a decision of the Federal Government and not of Triad.

New-Employment Drug Test: The Laboratory requires successful applicants to complete a new-employment drug test and maintains a substance abuse policy that includes random drug testing. Although New Mexico and other states have legalized the use of marijuana, use and possession of marijuana remain illegal under federal law. Incentive Compensation Program: Position is eligible to participate in the Triad Incentive Compensation Program. You must be in an eligible position for a minimum of 3 months, before July 1st and remain in an eligible position as of the end of the fiscal year, September 30th. The annual distribution is prorated based on the number of months in the eligible position.
