As part of the Engineering Services Division - Utilities & Infrastructure group (ES-UI), you'll contribute to our mission by applying your expertise in spatial data management, while working across 40 square miles of laboratory space. You'll be at the forefront of infrastructure surveying and mapping, contributing to our Conduct of Engineering (COE) program.

Note: This role will be filled at either the Engineering Technologist 1 or 2 level, depending on the qualifications and skills of the selected candidate.

In this dynamic position, you will:

  • Collaborate with a team to gather, analyze, and map data on utilities and structures across the LANL site

  • Utilize a mix of traditional land surveying, Global Positioning System (GPS) applications, LiDAR scanning and modeling, GIS data management, and advanced database technologies

What You Need

Minimum Job Requirements:

  • Proven experience in one or more areas: land surveying, LiDAR, GPS, and mapping, with an ability to demonstrate familiarity with related equipment and software

  • Passion for expanding your expertise in surveying, LiDAR, GPS, and mapping technologies

  • Flexibility to work in both outdoor field environments and indoor office settings

  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to prioritize tasks in a dynamic, fast-paced setting

  • Commitment to maintaining safety and security as a top priority, with the ability to stop work if conditions are unsafe or security is compromised

  • Ability to apply engineering principles, resolve complex problems creatively, and contribute to construction execution, ensuring accuracy and timeliness in documentation and reviews

  • Excellent collaboration skills, working effectively within a multi-disciplinary engineering team

Education/Experience at Engineering Technologist 1 ($83,900 - $ 136,600): Bachelor's Degree in Engineering Technology, Science, Math, or a related field, plus 2 years of relevant experience; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Education/Experience at Engineering Technologist 2 ($92,300 - $151,000): Bachelor's Degree in Engineering Technology, Science, Math, or a related field, plus 5 years of relevant experience; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Professional Land Surveyor registration

  • Experience with 3D laser scanning, scan processing, and facility modeling using LiDAR

  • Familiarity with Building Information Modeling (BIM) standards and procedures

  • Knowledge of DOE and LANL Engineering Standards, including Conduct of Engineering principles

Work Location: The work location for this position is onsite and located in Los Alamos, NM. All work locations are at the discretion of management.

Position Commitment: Regular appointment employees are required to serve a period of continuous service in their current position in order to be eligible to apply for posted jobs throughout the Laboratory. If an employee has not served the time required, they may only apply for Laboratory jobs with the documented approval of their Division Leader. The position commitment for this position is 1 year.

Additional Details

Directive 206.2 - Employment with Triad requires a favorable decision by NNSA indicating employee is suitable under NNSA Supplemental Directive 206.2. Please note that this requirement applies only to citizens of the United States. Foreign nationals are subject to a similar requirement under DOE Order 142.3A.

Clearance: Q (Position will be cleared to this level). Selected applicants will be subject to a background investigation conducted by or on behalf of the Federal Government, and must meet eligibility requirements* for access to classified matter. This position requires a Q clearance. and obtaining such clearance requires US Citizenship except in extremely rare circumstances. Dependent upon the position, additional authorization to access classified information may be required, which may or may not be available to dual citizens. Receipt of a Q clearance and additional access authorization ultimately is a decision of the Federal Government and not of Triad.

*Eligibility requirements: To obtain a clearance, an individual must be at least 18 years of age; U.S. citizenship is required except in very limited circumstances. See DOE Order 472.2 for additional information.

New-Employment Drug Test: The Laboratory requires successful applicants to complete a new-employment drug test and maintains a substance abuse policy that includes random drug testing. Although New Mexico and other states have legalized the use of marijuana, use and possession of marijuana remain illegal under federal law. A positive drug test for marijuana will result in termination of employment, even if the use was pre-offer.

Regular Position: Term status Laboratory employees applying for regular-status positions are converted to regular status.

Internal Applicants: Regular appointment employees who have served the required period of continuous service in their current position are eligible to apply for posted jobs throughout the Laboratory.
