Description

Robert Half has partnered with a leader in their industry and growing company in the area to hire an experienced and dynamic Controller to lead the finance and accounting function of their private equity-backed firm. The Controller will play a crucial role in financial management, reporting, and strategic decision-making to support the company's growth and profitability objectives. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in construction / contracting accounting, financial analysis, and leadership skills to drive operational efficiency and financial integrity.

Responsibilities include:

  • Oversee all aspects of financial reporting, accounting operations, and internal controls to ensure accuracy, compliance, and transparency.

  • Lead the month-end and year-end close processes, including preparation of financial statements, reconciliations, and variance analysis.

  • Develop and maintain accounting policies, procedures, and systems to streamline processes and enhance financial reporting efficiency.

  • Manage cash flow, working capital, and treasury functions to optimize liquidity and mitigate financial risks.

  • Collaborate with project management teams to monitor project costs, revenue recognition, and profitability analysis.

  • Prepare and review financial forecasts, budgets, and cash flow projections to support strategic planning and decision-making.

  • Liaise with external auditors, tax advisors, and regulatory agencies to facilitate audits, tax filings, and compliance requirements.

  • Provide financial analysis, insights, and recommendations to senior management and private equity stakeholders to drive performance improvements and value creation.

  • Evaluate and implement technology solutions to enhance financial reporting capabilities and operational efficiencies.

  • Lead and mentor finance and accounting staff, providing guidance, training, and performance feedback to foster professional growth and development.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field

  • CPA (Certified Public Accountant) designation preferred.

  • Minimum of 10+ years of progressive experience in accounting, with at least 4+ years in a managerial / leadership role within the construction industry.

  • Minimum of 3+ years in a prior Controller position overseeing a small to mid-size team

  • Strong understanding of construction accounting principles, including job costing, revenue recognition, and percentage of completion accounting.

  • Experience working with private equity investors or in a private equity-backed environment is highly desirable.

  • Excellent analytical skills with the ability to interpret financial data, identify trends, and make strategic recommendations.

  • Effective communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to interact professionally with internal and external stakeholders.

  • Demonstrated leadership abilities with a track record of building and developing high-performing teams.

  • Detail-oriented with a focus on accuracy and quality in financial reporting and analysis.

  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment and manage multiple priorities effectively.
