Description of Work

Salary Grade: NC07 / Recruitment Range $. $34,936.00 - $61,137.00 Annually
Employee in this position will assist in the inspection of construction activities (utility, driveway construction, road construction, etc.) within the right of way of state-maintained roads in Division 2. Employee will be expected to communicate with the maintenance and construction units in Division 2 with updates for ongoing and planned work. Employee will assist with field surveys for drainage and location work. Employee will be expected to field general complaint issues and coordinate with other units as needed to achieve the optimal result. Work will include inspecting guardrail and if damage is found will coordinate repairs. Employee will be expected to generate estimates for roadway improvements. Employee will assist higher level Technicians and Engineers with other duties as instructed.

Additional Expectations:
Employee will need to drive a pickup truck, carryall, or automobile. Employee may inspect the following: asphalt lay down; stone base construction; chemical stabilization; construction of fill sections; undercut; seeding/mulching; major concrete structures; curb and gutter; milling; driving piles; construction of drilled shafts; signal/sign installation; drainage; utility construction; erosion control; pavement markings; work zone traffic control; concrete pavement. Employee will be expected to maintain effective working relations with other employees and the general public. Employee should have the ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing. Employee will be expected to establish positive lines of communication between technicians, engineers, and contractors and apply safety philosophy and program to all operations. Safety toe shoes and a valid driver’s license will be needed.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements

Associate’s degree in Civil Engineering Technology, Survey Technology or assigned discipline from an appropriately accredited institution; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
If there are no qualified candidates remaining in the applicant pool who meet the minimum Education and Experience or Knowledge, Skills and Abilities required for the position, the agency may consider for this position, a trainee who does not meet the minimum requirements. Salary for a trainee may be set at a lower level than the classification salary range and recruitment range that is listed in the posting with the salary being adjusted up accordingly when the trainee has obtained the necessary additional education and experience to fully meet the minimum qualifications as outlined in the classification specification.
