Argonne National Laboratory Nonproliferation Policy Specialist in Lemont, Illinois

  • Provide policy expertise and support to Department programs in areas related to national security and nonproliferation of WMD-related technologies, in particular nonproliferation export controls.

  • Provide project implementation, research and analysis support for technical and policy nonproliferation projects.

  • Develop, manage and evaluate training activities for nonproliferation.

  • Develop and support innovative proposals for new nonproliferation related research and development.

  • Support development of nonproliferation tools and resources.

  • Facilitate and coordinate trainings, meetings and projects virtually, on site at Argonne, or in foreign countries as assigned.

This position can be performed remotely, onsite, or a hybrid of the two.

Position Requirements

  • Bachelor's + 5 yrs, Master's + 3 yrs, Doctorate + 0 yrs, or equivalent in engineering, science, international relations, or foreign affairs.

  • Knowledge of U.S. and international nonproliferation, export control, nuclear safeguards, and/or counter-proliferation finance policies and regimes.

  • Knowledge of National Nuclear Security Administration and/or Department of State programs and activities.

  • Knowledge and experience working in DOE National Laboratory complex.

  • Experience working in multidisciplinary and multi-organization teams to execute nonproliferation related training and/or research and development.

  • Experience organizing, providing subject matter expertise to, facilitating and/or leading training workshops or other capacity building engagements.

  • Experience contributing to successful proposals related to nonproliferation.

  • Experience coordinating and leading projects.

  • Proficiency in a WMD-related technical area (e.g., biology, chemistry, missile technology, or nuclear engineering) preferred.

  • Organizational skills and the ability to solve problems independently.

  • Oral and written communication skills and interpersonal skills.

  • Familiarity and experience with web applications, databases, and analytical tools.

To perform the essential functions of this position successful applicants must provide proof of U.S. citizenship, which is required to comply with federal regulations and contract and be able to successfully obtain a "Q" security clearance.
