Capital Area Community Services, Inc. Head Start Senior Accountant - Community action Agency - Lansing, MI in Lansing, Michigan

Reporting to the Director of Finance, the Senior Accountant provides assistance creating or approving financial transactions related to the Agency 's operations. This work includes reviewing the transactions of all programs of Capital Area Community Services, Inc. The employee in this position must have the ability to recommend and assist in the installation of new or modified systems, procedures, forms, and other financial and administrative matters.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Assist with oversight of all accounts, ledgers, and reporting systems ensuring compliance with non-profit and funding/grant standards and regulatory requirements.

Maintain knowledge of all program account budgets and fiscal record keeping requirements relative to fiscal responsibility and accounting methods.

Assist in preparation of monthly financial reports to Executive Director, Program Managers/Directors, and Board of Directors.

Assist in preparation of monthly financial reports to federal, state and local government.

Assist in planning, establishing, maintaining, and monitoring accounting policies and procedures.

Assist in preparation of budgets.

Review invoices and related documentation for proper authorization and fund coding; Review and recommend approval of Agency accounts payable.

Assist with audit documentation requests.

Serve as back up to the Finance Director and Payroll & Benefits Administrator.

Other duties as assigned by the Director of Finance.

Qualifications:

Bachelor's Degree in accounting or finance

Five to eight years of professional full time experience in accounting/finance

Extensive and progressively responsible experience in accounting work

Knowledge of the theory and practice of modern governmental accounting; knowledge of modern office methods, procedures, and practices; knowledge of the principles of public or business administration; ability to design and install new computerized accounting methods; ability to prepare complex financial reports and statements; ability to report findings of investigations conducted; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with superiors and associates.

Required Skills and Experience:

Proficient in Microsoft Excel

Experience with accounting software; Abila (MIP) accounting software experience preferred

Budgeting/forecasting experience preferred

Non-Profit and grant accounting experience required

Proficient verbal and written communication. Must use proper grammar, spelling, and email etiquette

Collaboration/cooperation skills; prompt and polite communication internally and externally

Excellent organizational skills, attention to detail, and time management

Ability to prioritize workload

Ability to maintain confidentiality

Must satisfactorily pass criminal history record search, sex offender registry search, DHHS clearance, physical, and drug screen at the time of hire and periodically thereafter per agency policies.

Physical Requirements

Regularly required to sit and talk or hear. Frequently required to reach with hands and arms. Must be able to occasionally lift and/or move up to 30 pounds.
