Job Purpose

Performs advanced research, development, and activities related to the application of actuarial principles for insurance/finance.

Essential Responsibilities

  • Sets and achieves goals to complete projects in a timely manner with accuracy, quality, and efficient use of resources.

  • Conducts advanced analysis in one or more of several areas, including product development, financial modeling, financial reporting, risk analysis, and data analysis.

  • Applies advanced actuarial concepts and standards of practice to work product and serves as an expert resource for selected areas of regulatory, professional, or technical knowledge.

  • Forms opinions on application of concepts and regulatory guidance as needed, typically for discussion or approval with Director/AVP.

  • Participates in industry research/committee work to promote professional development and, where possible, providing value to the company.

  • Communicates with management on project status, concerns, etc. Leads projects as required.

  • Delivers several projects concurrently and adjusts to changing priorities.

  • Accepts accountability for projects.

  • Takes ownership of the development, maintenance, enhancement, and documentation of actuarial tools and techniques required for project or production work.

  • Develops improvements in methods and procedures as necessary to improve efficiency.

  • Serves as a role model for and assists with the development of other actuarial staff.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Knowledge of advanced actuarial principles and standards of practice in order to apply to work product.

  • Ability to train or assist peers.

  • Highly proficient in the details of applicable computer applications and technical tools.

  • Sense of urgency and excellent follow through.

  • Must have the ability to handle multiple top priorities accurately and in a timely manner, and the ability to change priorities as needed.

  • Must be a proactive, creative, flexible and deductive thinker.

  • Ability to work independently or in a team.

  • Must possess excellent communication skills.

Qualifications

Bachelor's Degree in Actuarial Science, Mathematics, Statistics, Economics, Computer Science, or related field of study required.

3+ years actuarial experience required.

5+ years actuarial experience preferred.

Life and annuity experience preferred.

Fellow of the Society of Actuaries (FSA) required.
