The Challenge
We are looking for an experienced Engineering Technician II to join our Maintenance Operations Support team.
In this role, you will:
- Perform field and office engineering for maintenance and construction operations overseen by our Maintenance Operations Support team that manages purchase order contracts, division-managed contracts, and secondary construction projects. The team also oversees and assists the county maintenance operations.
- Support senior Engineering Technicians in planning, design, estimation, evaluation, investigation, inspection, surveying, materials sampling, testing, and reporting.
- Serve as a survey crew member and assist with project stakeouts.
What You Bring
- Basic knowledge conducting routine compliance inspections with contract agreements, standards/codes, and specifications.
- Computer skills using laptops, equipment, software, and math functions.
- Working knowledge and understanding of NCDOT concepts, practices, and theories.
- Working knowledge of Basic Work Zone Safety and NCDOT Workplace Safety Policy and Practices.
- Experience maintaining/completing standard records, reports, and correspondence.
- Knowledge and understanding of general concepts, practices, and theories used in construction inspection and surveying.
- General math knowledge and the ability to use a calculator to perform basic calculations.
- Communication skills to establish and maintain positive lines of communication between other technicians, engineers, contractors, and the public, plus the ability to communicate in a clear, concise, organized, and persuasive manner.
- Maturity to work safely in an outside environment with exposure to hazards on construction sites including heights, highway traffic, and traversing rough terrain in evaluating highway construction.
- Ability to perform moderate physical activity, including walking, climbing, balancing, kneeling, and standing.
- Strength to lift 50 pounds.
- Ability to work nights and weekends as required on any assigned project within the Division.
- You apply a safety philosophy and program to all operations.
- Ability to safely operate a state vehicle.
- Safety toe shoes.
Education and Experience
- Associate's degree in Civil Engineering Technology, Survey Technology, or a related field, and
- 2+ years relevant technician-level experience; or
- An equivalent combination of training and experience.
