Job Description:
Education:
Bachelor’s degree in Safety, Environmental or relevant field of study preferred
OSHA 30 Hour General Industry class within the last five (5) years preferred
Work Experiences:
Five (5) + years of safety and environmental work experience in the retail or distribution sector preferred. Three (3) years if a Certified Safety Professional (CSP) or a safety and health degree
Proficient with environmental and safety regulations.
Minimum of two (2) years of experience in regulatory compliance (NFPA, OSHA, EPA, etc.)
Hazardous materials experience preferred

Responsibilities:
Responsible for and develops safety improvement initiatives and manages ongoing daily safety and wellness operations for stores and/or distribution centers
Provide insight, training, and information for management teams regarding the safety and wellness strategic objectives and regulatory compliance issues
Review, develop, draft, and implement safety policies, procedures, standards, and programs for OSHA and regulatory compliance, that protect team members from hazardous conditions
Direct activities and perform risk assessments/hazard analysis, related to work performed in various internal business units, to identify and control HSE risks to reduce injury and costs; build business cases, as necessary
Participate in tactical planning and support of HSE program and processes at multiple business units
Investigate reported injuries and safety hazards to determine root cause and assign appropriate preventive and/or corrective actions with internal business units to eliminate hazards
Represents the Company to external regulatory agencies (e.g., Fire Marshal, EPA, OSHA, etc.)
Provide support for the incident/injury reporting and tracking system, including report generation and reviews, in relation to workplace injuries/illnesses, and other undesired occurrences. Assist with and maintain strict confidentiality of all information, written or verbal, that becomes available as part of incident investigations
Develop accurate and concise written communications concerning HSE issues, with-in multiple internal business units, and provide technical guidance to mitigate or eliminate hazards
Institute safety controls and measures to identify and develop injury reduction strategies
Research and interpret regulatory requirements and provide potential solutions to identified HSE issues
Develop audit guidelines for Academy’s internal Compliance Audit Team
Evaluate and summarize audit findings and/or inspection results
Support internal business unit operations during inspections, audits, and audit closing meetings to provide a better understanding of results and safety requirements
Communicate results of audits and inspections with management and appropriate business units
Perform safety inspections and audits, as needed, to identify best practices and potential HSE deficiencies. In addition, must be able to provide regulatory citation for deficiencies identified and be able to assist in developing and implementing solutions
Review new products to determine appropriate hazard classification
Conduct safety meetings and training with team members, as needed
Develop a thorough understanding of Academy’s policies, procedures and safety standards
Track and communicate safety related information and statistics with various levels of management
Required to learn company policies, procedures, and safety rules
Duties may change; team member may be required perform other duties outside as assigned
Physical Requirements & Attendance,:
This position requires on call availability outside business hours on an as needed basis
Acceptable level of hearing and vision to perform job duties
Adhere to company work hours, policies, procedures and standards governing professional staff behavior
