Job Summary: Execute electrical installation and removal tasks on substation equipment utilized in power transmission, distribution, and generation. Oversee and take part in cable/conduit installation, cable preparation, and wiring terminations in an electrical substation and control room/building.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities of P&C Wireman:

  • Read and interpret manuals, schematics, cable schedules, and wiring diagrams to install/modify substation Protection and Control wiring in accordance with engineering design and customer specifications

  • Support Protection and Control project installations, alterations, additions and/or repairs while working in the vicinity of energized or in-service equipment as directed by the P&C Lead

  • Assists with project tasks and ensures that materials, tools, and equipment are available in a timely manner to meet project schedule

  • Interacts with the P&C Lead to make sure project is on schedule and milestones are met

  • Responsible for reviewing and marking up all project drawings to document progress, field changes, and corrections as applicable

  • Support sales by participating in the project estimating process by reviewing equipment and engineered drawings and developing task schedules and time and material estimates as needed.

  • Responsible for maintaining the safety, quality, and human performance standards of Premier Power Maintenance

  • Performs daily briefings, develops job hazard analysis, participates in weekly safety meetings and trainings; and promotes company safety policies and procedures

  • Must be a team player willing to provide advice and assistance to other team members when needed.

Knowledge and Skills for P&C Wireman:

  • Follow OSHA compliance standards, federal, state, and local safety laws and DOT rules and regulations

  • Extensive knowledge regarding the installation, configuration and wiring of Protection and Control and communication circuits for typical substation equipment and relay panels

  • Have a general understanding the National Electrical Code (NEC), National Electrical Safety Code (NESC), and the Standard for electrical safety in the workplace (NFPA-70E), Building Industry Consulting Service International (BICSI) standards.

  • Ability to identify hazards and take appropriate action to mitigate hazards including, but not limited to; proper selection and use of PPE, selection of proper tools for the task, control of hazardous energy, and following guidelines for minimum approach distance to exposed energized conductors.

  • Ability to identify potential wiring design and drafting errors on drawings

  • Ability to work independently while utilizing excellent judgement

  • Must have excellent attention to detail taking the time to understand the systems prior to executing work tasks

  • Strong organizational, communication and problem-solving skills

  • Ability to multitask, prioritize and work well under pressure to meet goals and deadlines

Work Environment:

  • Work in close, but safe, proximity to live electrical primary and control voltages

  • Able to work flexible hours including overtime, nights, weekends, and some holidays

  • Must be willing to respond to customer emergencies

  • Must be able to travel on overnight, multi-day, out-of-town projects

  • Must be able to lift and maneuver at least 50 pounds

  • Must be willing and capable of working with your hands and working in the field

Education and Work Experience for P&C Wireman:

  • Minimum education: High School Diploma or GED

  • Higher Education or Industry Certifications in construction, network communications or a related field preferred

  • Lead experience in a similar electrical environment preferred

  • Experience with installation and termination of communication network wiring including fiber, cat5/6, serial networks, and BNC cables is a plus

  • Commercial Driver’s License preferred

  • Military experience is preferred

Other Requirements:

  • Must be able to pass a pre-employment criminal background, education verification, motor vehicle report, physical abilities test, and an approved hair follicle test and urine drug screen

  • Must have a valid driver’s license and be able to obtain a chauffeur’s license

  • Must be willing to obtain a company paid TWIC card, OSHA 30 hour, MSHA, NFPA 70-E, and CPR training
