Position Summary

To provide custody of youth detained in the Marion County Juvenile Detention Center in a safe, secure, and humane atmosphere, and in such a manner as to ensure their day-by-day and moment-by-moment basic physical, emotional, and psychological safety.

Position Responsibilities

  • Upon the youth’s entry, staff will perform a pat search.

  • Add in the facility stay. If detained will then shower the youth, and if released will enter into the system.

  • Complete data entry in the case management system including conducting the Maysi screening.

  • Secure the youth’s property, create the property document, and allow the youth to sign into the system.

  • When necessary, staff will complete fingerprinting, photographs, and drug screen.

  • Notify parents or guardians of the youth’s arrest

  • Wash and store the youth’s personal laundry, assist with washing and storing linen for the facility.

  • Contact medical upon youth arrival/if determined to be detained & in need of medical care, escort and supervise youth at the medical facility.

  • Stock and clean the shower area located in Intake area, including towels, shoes, uniforms, etc.

  • Work with the Youth Counseling department to monitor residents during virtual hearings.

  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Associate’s or Bachelors’ degree preferred. Experience working with youth or in a human-services related field ideal. Must be 21 years of age. Excellent interpersonal relationship skills as well as strong oral and written communication skills. Demonstrated computer skills/proficiency required. Must be able to interact with diverse groups of individuals, including youth who are exhibiting challenging behaviors. Will be required to be trained in Basic First Aid, CPR and Safety Crisis Management (SCM) Training as well as PREA.

Salary is based on applicable years of experience. Salary enhancements for education and bi-lingual skills are available.

Shift differential for 2nd & 3rd shifts.

Marion County residency is required within six months of hire.
