The Role: Senior Analyst, Methodology Governance and Controls

The Team:

The newly combined S1 Research and Methodology Team sits within S&P Global’s Sustainable1 organization. The team leads the innovation, development and maintenance of the methodologies and models that underpin S&P Global’s broad suite of sustainability data and analytical solutions, to meet client needs and address market demand. The team also supports cross-divisional alignment on methodology and model development, as well as overall methodology and model governance and quality. The team prioritizes quality, efficiency, transparency and continuous innovation through collaboration and inclusiveness.

In this role, you will be working with a range of stakeholders, both within the Research and Methodology Team, and across S&P Global more widely, to ensure robust methodology and model governance and quality management processes are in place. The role provides an opportunity to support a small team essential to the continued success and integrity of the Research and Methodology Team’s work and S&P Global sustainability product suite.

In this role, you will be working with a range of stakeholders, both within the Research and Methodology Team, and across S&P Global more widely, to support the build out and establishment of robust methodology and model governance and quality management processes. The role provides an opportunity to be part of a small team essential to the continued success and integrity of the Research and Methodology Team’s work and S&P Global sustainability product suite.

Your main task will include:

  • Support the build out of newly established Research Governance processes in a complex and fast-paced environment.

  • Work with S&P Global Legal, Risk, Compliance, People, and Government Affairs Teams to help develop and implement research operations and controls that prepare the Research and Methodology Team for evolving regulation and market scrutiny and help further drive a culture of transparency, risk awareness and compliance.

  • Work closely with the S1 Sustainability Data Team to ensure that overall KPIs and quality reporting are aligned.

  • Manage the Methodology and Model Governance Committees that oversee the development of the methodologies underpinning S&P Global’s broad suite of sustainability data and analytical solutions. This includes managing the review process and procedures including operational support.

  • Support the review and approval process of new methodologies and models, as well as the maintenance of and enhancements to existing methodologies and models.

  • Work on the standardization, approval and maintenance of all documentation describing S&P Global models and methodologies.

  • Help develop best practices and drive adoption of the best practices in quality and robust management across the Research and Methodology Team.

  • Support the development of reporting and audit tools and dashboards on relevant governance practices and processes for senior and executive management.

  • Support internal and external enquiries related to internal governance controls and processes for the Research and Methodology Team, including but not limited to, enquiries from external/internal audit and regulators.

What We’re Looking For:

Basic Qualifications & Skills Required:

  • Undergraduate or Postgraduate degree in Economics, Finance, Environmental Economics, Development Economics or Environmental Sciences or relevant work experience.

  • 4+ years of work experience in the field of ESG ratings or research, corporate sustainability or sustainability investing.

  • Industry or sustainability-topic specific experience or expertise.

  • Ideally the candidate would have a proven track record in operations, governance and/or quality management in a sustainability-focused data or analytics organization, or experience working in product management/analytical roles for a sustainability data provider.

  • Intellectual agility and comfort with working on a wide variety of sustainability research topics.

  • Proficient in the use of MS Excel, SmartSheet and other IT tools.

  • Strong project management and organizational skills.

  • Strong analytical skills and an acute attention to detail.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

  • Independent, inquisitive and challenging mindset.

  • Self-motivated, organized, detail-oriented, with a positive, “can do” attitude.

  • Excellent written and spoken English.

  • Additional languages will be considered favorably including Mandarin, Spanish, German, and French.
