Job Description:

We are seeking a Manufacturing Engineer with a strong background in tapewrap and composite part manufacturing to join our Advanced Manufacturing Facility (AMF) team in Huntsville, AL. The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience in developing and optimizing tapewrap processes, designing manufacturing procedures for aerospace-grade composite parts, and ensuring adherence to stringent quality standards. With expertise in composite materials, including pre-pregs and various resin systems, and knowledge of non-destructive testing methods, the successful applicant will drive continuous improvement initiatives to enhance the production of composite rocket motor hardware. This role requires a proactive, self-starting individual who is eager to contribute to our mission of delivering innovative aerospace solutions. Your pivotal contributions will help maintain our leadership in the aerospace industry through advanced manufacturing excellence.

Essential Functions:

  • Plan, develop, initiate and maintain processes for the fabrication of advanced composite parts. Create detailed work instructions, procedures, PFMEAs, and JSAs that meet design, process, quality, safety, and environmental requirements. Provide shop floor support of advanced composite manufacturing processes.

  • Provide technical guidance and/or training to shop floor, design and management teams. Analyze engineering drawings and specifications in support of developing robust and advanced part and tooling designs. Interface with all of the related support groups for processes to ensure accuracy, control and safety of the personnel and quality of the hardware.

  • Perform investigations of nonconforming hardware and implement corrective actions to prevent future occurrences.

  • Present fabrication processes at customer readiness reviews and present process changes to customers at change board meetings.

  • Occasional travel maybe required to support suppliers or other manufacturing sites.

  • Occasional off-shift and weekend work required to support manufacturing schedules

    Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree and minimum 2 years of prior relevant experience. Graduate Degree or equivalent with 0 to 2 years of prior related experience. In lieu of a degree, minimum of 6 years of prior related experience.

    Preferred Additional Skills:

  • Hand layup and cure of insulation, composite and/or other materials

  • Strong GD&T background supporting part validation

  • CAD modeling experience

  • Surface preparation for primary substrates to bond rubber or composite materials

  • Precision assembly of aerospace hardware

  • Experience with operation of robots, presses, ovens, winders, CNC machines, cutting tables and/or autoclaves
