Insight Global Automation Engineer in Houston, Texas

Job Description

A midstream pipeline company in downtown Houston is looking for an Automation Engineer to join their team and provide support to the field. This team supports and does automation for the clients liquid pipelines. They are responsible for the automation part of the pipeline (PLCs and any other equipment in the field) as well as the control center Scada. A lot of the software this team uses to do this is outdated, so they are looking for an individual who has been using Wonderware for over 5 years and are well versed with Scada and Emerson PLC system. They will be supporting their pipelines and facilities in their pacific region with Emerson PLC. This individual along with their team members, will all be responsible for monitoring the ticketing system. Example of types of issues they will be resolving pipeline failure, valves or pumps not working, troubleshooting a pressure transmitter that went out, software failures in general, server upgrades, etc.

 Take support calls/phone calls (they have a hotline), all assigned tickets respond and fix the issues, potentially get a list of items that would need to be repaired within Wonderware.

 1 week every 5 weeks go into a 24/7 on call week. The week on call can be a work-from-home week. Even though they are on call we have additional resources to rely on so candidate does not get overloaded on back-to-back calls (if on call, work from home those weeks) (have external vendors, for pacific region also on call, so if they need help for multiple calls or because they don't know, you can easily call the vendor and they can help)

 Communicating with multiple parties so need good communication skills, talking to control rooms so need to be concise on what needs to be done (could come from a pipeline controller in the Houston controller center or a I&E tech in the field)

 A good understanding on internal customer needs (20+ field control centers with 24/7 pipeline production)

 Depending on support load, could be assigned project load related to PLC programming, Wonderware programming

 Follow through with documentation

 Design, develop, test and maintain PLC based automation systems, Flow Computer based automation systems and PC based HMI systems.

 Design and implement automation system networks, including specifying communications protocols, communications media (copper, fiber) and associated hardware such as media converters.

 Read and interpret electrical, control and instrumentation drawings and provide reviews of design/construction drawing packages.

 Interface with engineering project managers and operations personnel to integrate facilities and design changes with the local control center.

 Provide technical expertise in mechanical, instrument, electrical, and/or automation specifications and standards as required.

 Specify and procure instrumentation and controls related equipment used in automation systems.

 Develop contractor bid documents, conduct bid process, select contractor and manage contractor throughout automation capital projects.

 Develop, modify existing procedures and standards such as CRM documents, source control, and audit documentation / requests. This requires collaboration with team members and other departments such as IT/SCADA, Compliance and Control Center. Participation in CRM audits required to answer automation/SCADA questions.

Skills and Requirements

5+ years experience as an Automation Engineer

 5+ years experience with Wonderware InTouch as old as 10.1, 10.6 OR Wonderware Application server as old as 2012 (goes up to 2017ish, so they need to know the older version and skillset)

 5+ years working with Emerson PLCs (formerly known as GE PLC) (IF has Wonderware experience and a different PLC experience, this can work)

 Instrumentation & Control Engineering, systems integration or related applicable experience

 5+ years SCADA experience

 Comes from oil & gas OR water industry (dealing with productliquid pipelines)

 High knowledge of Windows networking know how firewall rules work, windows PowerShell, administrative standpoint how windows functions (software integrates in Windows), networking set up within Windows

 Familiar with working in a Remote Desktop environment

 Familiar with Microsoft server 2003 and up

 5+ years experience with control systems & automation null
