Job Summary
The Data Analyst is responsible for collaborating with various members of the Mechanical team to bring operational data to life. By analyzing alert thresholds, wayside detector readings, and failure trends, and other metrics, you will be a key member of a dedicated team of railroaders working to improve the reliability of locomotives and rolling stock. This position contributes to the Mechanical Reliability team, which includes Car and Locomotive, Locomotive Subject Matter Expert (SME), Fleet leaders, Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEM), Wayside Detector / Machine Vision teams, and Senior Mechanical Leaders. The ideal candidate has a passion for analyzing data and creating powerful reports and Tableau/Power BI dashboards that help bring ideas to life.
Main Responsibilities
· Identify trends, performance, safety, and productivity opportunities by applying data science techniques
· Design, develop, and implement ETL processes to extract data from various sources, including databases, APIs, and flat files
· Load transformed data into data warehouses, data lakes, or other storage solutions to ensure accessibility and usability
· Apply data cleaning, transformation, and enrichment techniques to prepare data for analysis and reporting
· Develop, maintain and analyze performance metrics and reports that support data-driven decision-making processes.
· Set alert thresholds by defect and fleet
· Collaborate with internal and external teams to identify improvement opportunities
· Communicate and present findings to teams and management at all levels
· Drive the collection of new data and the refinement of existing data resources
· Validate existing data sources by performing quality and audit checks
· Analyze and interpret the results from analytical tools and explain the meaning to the appropriate management levels
· Develop best practices for instrumentation and experimentation while communicating to team members
Working Conditions
The role has standard working conditions in an office environment with a regular workweek from Monday to Friday. The incumbent must be available to work night shifts and weekends when necessary. Due to the nature of the role, the incumbent must be able to meet tight deadlines, handle pressure and stress. The role requires minimal travel (10%).
Requirements
Experience
Data Analytics
· Minimum 3 years of experience in data analytics tools including:
o SQL, Tableau, Power BI, SAP Bex, Excel
· Provide a minimum of 3 portfolio samples of dashboards or reports, PDF format or web link is preferred*
· Machine Learning and Computer Vision Experience*
· Minimum 3 years of experience including*:
o Databricks
o Azure Data Factory
o Similar advanced pipeline and analytics tools such as Informatica Claire, Palantir Foundry
o Familiarity with ETL - Extract Transform Load processes
*Any experience for these above would be considered as an asset
Education/Certification/Designation
· Bachelor’s of Science Degree in either Statistics, Mathematics, Data Science or Engineering, or equivalent experience.

Technical Skills/Knowledge
· Knowledge of one or more scripting languages including Python, Pandas, or equivalent to perform required research and analysis
· Construct and manage Structured Query Language (SQL) queries required for analysis
· Experience with Apache Spark and its integration with Databricks.
· Use visualization tools such as Tableau and Power BI
· Work independently on small projects
