Job Summary
The Technical Writer will be researching, organizing, writing, editing, and producing documentation. Organizing material and writing descriptive copy according to standards regarding order, clarity, conciseness, style, and terminology.
Job Description
We are seeking a skilled and experienced Technical Writer to join our IT team. This position will be full-time, onsite, and is a contract position.
What You'll Do
Engage with project subject matter experts (SMEs) to illicit detailed systems and process change information and convert it into documentation, training materials, quick reference guides and job aids for impacted audiences
Manage the development of assigned projects delivering complete materials aligned to system delivery schedule
Conduct audience analysis to ensure that deliverables will align with each specific audience need
Create, publish, test, troubleshoot, and maintain documents for web-based delivery
Coordinate production and translation of materials and assists with associated deployment/rollout activities
Work collaboratively with instructional designers, SMEs and team members to derive content
Develop and implement communication plan regarding materials produced to intended audiences
Use existing Microsoft Document Management tools to define the optimal storage structure to facilitate long term adoption and update of the materials produced
What You'll Need
Required
Bachelor's degree in Technical Writing, Journalism, English, Communications, Instructional Design or related fields, or equivalent 3 - 5 years of work experience in related field
Excellent Technical writing skills
Ability to use client owned technology to create compelling and communicative graphics & content
Ability to work with Information Technology and Operational technology experts to develop technical documentation and training materials for server, network and security infrastructure
Composure under pressure. self-starter, and collaborative working style
Ability to influence stakeholders
Ability to manage multiple projects and client interactions concurrently (project management and time management skills)
Attention to detail and strong work ethic
Proficiency with MS Office 365 Suite including Outlook, Teams, SharePoint, Word, PowerPoint, Excel. and Visio
Desired
Previous experience building documentation and training materials for IT Server setup and on-going system administration
Instructional Systems Design skills to include needs assessment and/or performance consulting, objective design and sequencing, and measurement plans
Strong knowledge of adult learning theory, learning styles, learner needs, delivery of Web-based and multimedia content
Experience with the following content development tools
Articulate 360 or Adobe Captivate
Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, InDesign, Illustrator, Fireworks, Dreamweaver)
Multimedia, video production and editing
Physical Demands
Ability to safely and successfully perform the essential job functions consistent with the ADA and other federal, state, and local standards
Sedentary work that involves sitting or remaining stationary most of the time with occasional need to move around the office to attend meetings, etc.
Ability to conduct repetitive tasks on a computer, utilizing a mouse, keyboard, and monitor.
