Job Summary

Performs advanced System Administration duties for servers and applications that support the remote and automated deployment of operating systems, patches, updates, drivers, applications, and security policy to university endpoints including desktop, laptop, virtual machines, and mobile devices. This role will work with various IT units to develop, deploy, and manage standardized configurations and policies using multiple endpoint and device management tools.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

  • Maintain endpoint management systems to conform to established hardware, software, and security standards.

  • Provides recommendations, consulting, and support for endpoint management systems.

  • Test, install, and deploy operating systems, patches, updates, drivers, and applications to devices using endpoint management tools.

  • Work with various IT teams to provide technical support for endpoint devices.

  • Maintain knowledge base and documentation related to responsible systems and services.

  • Maintain and increase technical knowledge through coursework, workshops, seminars, readings, and cross training with other team members.

  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

Associates Degree (AAS) in computer science, business information systems, or related information technology field, and a minimum of four years’ directly related experience. Directly related experience can be substituted for the education requirement on a year-for-year basis. Requires relevant system administration level certification in related technologies or the ability to achieve certification within 180 days of employment.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Advanced knowledge of desktop operating systems

  • Knowledge of desktop security hardening concepts: group policy, firewalls.

  • Knowledge of patch deployment cycles, including antivirus definitions.

  • Knowledge of virtualization solutions for endpoint devices.

  • Knowledge of scripting and automation capabilities.

  • Knowledge of server operating systems services and roles.

  • Knowledge of networking concepts: OSI levels 1-4, NTP, DNS, DHCP.

  • Advanced troubleshooting skills.

  • Strong customer service skills.

  • Strong organizational skills.

  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.

  • Ability and availability to work on-call, odd hours.

  • Ability and availability for light travel

Preferred Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree (BS) in computer science, business information systems, or related field of study, and a minimum of four years’ directly related experience in large, complex, multi-system technology environments. Experience with the following: desktop operating systems such as Microsoft Windows and Apple MacOS; endpoint configuration management solutions such as Microsoft Active Directory, System Center Configuration Manager, Microsoft Endpoint Management \ Intune, JAMF; virtual desktop infrastructure (VDI) technologies such as VMWare Horizon; and scripting with Powershell is a plus.
