The Pennsylvania State Police (PSP) are actively seeking legal assistants for the Pennsylvania Instant Check System (PICS) Operations Section to process applications for firearm purchases and carry licenses. DESCRIPTION OF WORK In this role, you will be a PICS operator and gather as well as review information to develop preliminary recommendations for supervisory review of an approval or denial of a firearm purchase or license to carry applicant, including PICS Background Check Requests for Evidence Returns. You will also research applicants who have a criminal record and obtain information such as dispositions, grades of crime, and possibility of domestic violence involvement. You will determine whether an applicant is the same individual who has been identified by a criminal history record, Protection from Abuse (PFA) order, or mental health record, and if the applicant is wanted based on the provided information. Additionally, you will follow procedures for apprehension of wanted persons, which includes verifying the warrant with the issuing agency and having local police dispatched to the scene.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

Full-time employment, 37.5 hours per week Work hours will have rotating shifts, including holidays and weekends. Salary:Selected candidates who are new to employment within the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania will begin employment at the starting annual salary of $39,003 (before taxes). Check your email, including spam/junk folders, for these notices.   REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY QUALIFICATIONS Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

Three years of responsible clerical, enforcement or investigative work; or An equivalent combination of experience and training. Post Employment Requirement: You must obtain and maintain an active Commonwealth Law Enforcement Assistance Network (CLEAN) certification issued by the Pennsylvania State Police within the probationary period and maintain the same for the duration of employment in this job. You must be able to perform essential job functions. Legal Requirements: You must pass criminal history and background investigations. This job title has been identified as performing critical duties.
