Assistant Manager, Distribution Center - 2nd Shift

The Distribution Center Assistant Manager is responsible for assisting the Distribution Center Manager in the planning, control, and performance of the Distribution Center. This includes the overall supervision of the hourly work force (ranging from 20-50 people, including temps), supervisors and other management staff; processing a minimum of 100 cycle counts per day, inbound inventories exceeding 100,000 lbs. per week, and over $30M in customer orders per year.

DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Maintains a working knowledge of operating systems in packaging and warehouse management.

  • Implements cycle count programs and procedures to improve and control inventory accuracy.

  • Implements continuous operational and administrative improvements to achieve productivity objectives.

  • Accountable for operating within the prescribed budget assigned.

  • Maintains a well-trained staff responsive to the needs of the customer, both internal and external

  • Responsible for the safety and security of all employees; maintains safe working practices and conditions in the facility and takes actions to correct any unsafe practices and / or conditions.

  • Ensures compliance with federal, state, and local statutes as well as DOT hazardous materials regulations.

  • Maintains compliance with ISO9002 standards within the facility.

  • Reviews daily status reports to determine workload and timeliness of facility efforts; plans work to meet objectives with minimum use of overtime.

  • Schedules employees according to workload; ensures sufficiently trained labor is available to complete tasks.

  • Develop and support supervisory goals regarding safety metrics.

  • Provides resources for Global Safety initiatives.

  • Participates in staff meetings to discuss and promote general operating improvements and to plan for operations as well as special projects.

  • Participates in the selection and hiring process for all employees

  • Evaluates and implements personnel policies and procedures to meet company standards of performance.

  • Responsible for facility housekeeping and directs maintenance of the building and grounds.

  • Drives the MSC Culture in the department and throughout the company to ensure fulfillment of MSC’s vision and unity of purpose.

  • Participation in special projects and performs additional duties as required

    EDUCATION and EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Business preferred

  • 3-5 years of experience in distribution management, preferably in a packaging environment

  • SKILLS:

  • General knowledge of distribution functions including operations, inventory control, systems and human resources.

  • Strong leadership skills; able to lead and direct a team of supervisors and hourly employees

  • Project management and implementation skills

  • Ability to teach and train employees in current and new methods

  • Excellent human relations skills

  • High levels of integrity displayed on a daily basis

  • Ability to bring about change in both methods and culture.

  • Bending to lift items from the floor and racks required.

  • Lifting items between 25 and 50 pounds required.

  • Ability to operate at heights up to 50 feet required
