Eaton Corporation Ecodesign Engineer in Hadapsar, India

What you’ll do:

Eaton’s Center for Sustainability is looking for highly motivated individuals who is passionate about environmental accounting and has strong inclination towards Sustainability domain. The Engineer will be supporting Product Environment profiles (PEP) / Environmental Product declarations (EPDs) through life cycle assessment (LCA) and Design for Environment for New Product Introduction, compliance (climate and environmental regulations) for Eaton’s broad portfolio of electrical products. This work will help business across the enterprise meet customer requests related to Life Cycle Assessment, address regulatory challenges and create sustainability value propositions to gain additional business opportunities.

  • Independently execute detailed Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) studies as per ISO 14040 & 14044 to evaluate environmental impacts of Eaton electrical products followed by 3rd party verification to publish type-III Environmental Product Declarations (EPD).

  • Develop modular LCAs & create a library of Eaton standard components & processes.

  • Support the product engineering teams on the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions associated with the electrical product’s lifecycle.

  • Support in developing eco-design tools and their implementation during new product introduction process.

  • Evaluate compliance in accordance with applicable eco-design related regulations (e.g. EU-ErP Directive)

  • Understand customer requirements and communicate to other Eaton teams, and act as the liaison for program activities as appropriate.

  • Provide regular reports on development and support activities.

  • Support Design-For-Environment activities for new product development projects

  • Interact with key customers/stakeholders in understanding current & upcoming sustainability trends and their relevance to our products.

  • Contribute to continuous process improvements to increase productivity and efficiency.

Qualifications:

Bachelors or Masters' degree in Enviornmental science or Chemical/Mechanical/ Electronics /Electricals engineering

  • Bachelors with 3-5 years’ experience or Masters with 1-3 years’ of progressive experience in the areas of Sustainability domain, Product or technology development for Industrial, Electrical/Electronic or Chemical products or process.

Skills:

  • A proven track record of providing technical solutions for business problems.

  • Understands requirements related to eco-design regulations (like ErP regulations) and work with product teams to ensure compliance while releasing new products.

  • Need to have sound fundamental engineering knowledge.

  • Has experience of conducting LCA as per the specific rules as (ISO14040/44/25). LCA according to PEP-EcoPassport Product Category Rules/ Product Specific Rules will be bonus.

  • Demonstrates LCA execution using modeling software like EIME (preferably), SimaPro, Sphera/GaBi, OpenLCA or any similar software.

  • Ability to define goal & scope of the study & working closely with product teams to get the required Life Cycle Inventory (LCI) data.

  • Can interpret LCA results for hotspots and provide recommendations.

  • Communicate the LCA impacts to internal and external stakeholders.

  • Working knowledge on REACH, RoHS, Prop65 and other applicable regulations and it's impact on product and technology will be added advantage

  • Experience in supporting/leading projects with multiple stakeholders in matrix organization and strong project management experience is required.

  • Abreast of upcoming environmental regulations, trends, and methodologies

  • Comfortable dealing with data and Microsoft office applications (Excel, PowerPoint, Word)

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills including the ability to effectively explain technical concepts.

  • Good judgment, time management, and decision-making skills
