Primary Responsibilities:

  • Partner with Business, Technical and Strategic Product to make and meet project commitments in an agile framework; rapidly delivering value to our customers via technology solutions

  • Build teams and leaders to successfully deliver software and business value

  • Champion the usage of modern agile tools, processes, best practices, training, tiger teams, etc.

  • Understand and contribute to long term (1+ year) strategy/direction

  • Advance leaders to leadership positions

  • Accountable for teams’ adoption of Optum engineering culture

  • Review & allocate appropriate monetary rewards

  • Maintain and leverage a personal network within the org for solving business problems and personal growth

  • Create and champion recommendations, plans, and projects to drive the organization towards success in deploying technology to meet its business goals

  • Influence appropriate leaders of partners and dependency teams to drive success

  • Distill and communicate essential information concisely to leadership

  • Lead leaders to deliver operational excellence and continue to raise the bar

  • Champion and drive automation expectations, goals and prioritization

  • Develop an organization with a culture of modern best practices for security and privacy

  • Continuous improvement for alerts, monitors and telemetry

  • Accountable for teams who design and develop resilient, reliable, scalable and self-healing solutions to meet and exceed customer requirements

  • Partner with US Delivery leaders to manage budgets, resources, forecasting, etc.

  • Communicate clearly and effectively in oral and written forms, and be able to present and demonstrate work to technical and non-technical stakeholders

  • Manage staff, drive excellence in recruiting, interviewing and team onboarding

  • Mentor all members of the engineering leadership team to develop and perform as highly as possible

  • Comply with the terms and conditions of the employment contract, company policies and procedures, and any and all directives (such as, but not limited to, transfer and/or re-assignment to different work locations, change in teams and/or work shifts, policies in regards to flexibility of work benefits and/or work environment, alternative work arrangements, and other decisions that may arise due to the changing business environment). Required Qualifications:

  • 10+ years of experience with languages such as Java, C# or Python as an engineer

  • 2+ years of production operational support

  • 2+ years writing unit or integration tests

  • 1+ years of production experience with cloud technologies like Azure

  • Experience working with teams that leveraged two or more of the following: continuous integration / continuous delivery tools, REST API development, serverless architecture, containerization, IaC, public / private cloud, web applications, web services, application observability and/or messaging / stream architecture

  • IT leadership experience

  • Deep agile development experience; solid understanding of DevOps mindset

  • Solid understanding of software engineering and processes: design patterns, algorithms, data structures, schemas and queries, system design, unit testing, code reviews, agile, and dev-ops

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with technologies such as: HTML/Javascript, TestCafe, NodeJS, Git, JEST or SOA

  • Development experience in .NET CORE, Containers, Cloud, Kubernetes, React, Message Queues

  • Knowledge of instrumenting apps with cloud telemetry (like Azure App Insights), and creating effective alarms and dashboards

  • Knowledge of log indexing tools (e.g. ELK stack, Datadog, Splunk, Sumologic)

  • Knowledge of SRE principles (error budgets, alarming practices, etc)

  • Healthcare domain background
