Purpose:

The Vice President of Asset Allocation and ALM Reporting will be Athene’s officer, accountable for overseeing the Liability Driven Investment process on behalf of Athene and monitoring ALM exposures relative to Athene’s ALM Risk Policy. The individual will lead the ALM process, including proposing SAA and ALM strategies and communication of the material ALM issues to Executive management across Athene and Apollo, as well as the Board of Directors. The role will be responsible for reporting and monitoring, enhance governance over the ALM risk management processes across business channels, legal entity, economic entity, and client portfolio level relative to liquidity, capital, pricing, and plan.

Accountabilities:

The Vice President of Asset Allocation and ALM Reporting will report directly to the Head of ALM with responsibilities to:

  • Develop and mature Strategic Asset Allocation (SAA) and ALM frameworks and processes to most effectively manage and monitor ALM across the organization, coordinating across Athene and Apollo

  • Review ALM risk governance policies, limits, standards, controls, at least annually and recommend changes as appropriate

  • Ensure applicable governance around Athene’s SAA optimization, including objective function selection and corresponding limits and constraints, for various uses (financial planning, pricing, portfolio management mandates)

  • Lead monthly asset allocation meetings on tactical positioning with cross function/business teams

  • Actively monitor ALM position and limits and own ALM Risk policy

  • Lead monthly asset allocation meeting monitoring marginal tactical positioning relative to strategic asset allocation and relative value across asset classes

  • Monitor and report ALM position across Legal Entities, Economic Entities, Lines of Business and Portfolios to stakeholders including board, management, asset manager, and regulators

  • Measure and report current ALM position relative to board approved risk limits and targets. Ensure ALM Risk taken is in accordance with Risk Appetite and that the proper risk framework is deployed to measure, monitor, and control the risk consistent with overall Enterprise requirements

  • Collaborate with Apollo on implementation of appropriate hedging strategies to mitigate ALM risks and ensure optimal accounting and performance measurement

  • Develop/evolve/mature SAA process and governance, reporting, and monitoring. Partner with ISG and Apollo to create, develop, and implement new analysis, objectives, and initiatives

  • Oversight of Plan, Pricing and Portfolio Manager Mandates to ensure consistency with SAA

  • Champion Capital Markets Assumptions collaboration across Athene and Apollo for consistency in Plan, SAA, and liability pricing with Assumptions Oversight Committee approval

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Graduate or MBA degree in finance, economics, or math; MBA, CFA, FRM, PRM and/or specialized degree in financial engineering or similar discipline preferred

  • Experience in life insurance, investment, and/or risk management

  • Senior executive experience in an Asset Management, money center bank or global insurer or equivalent with 10+ years of experience; 5-10 years of indirect or direct people leadership experience

  • Experience managing the general account of an insurance company preferred

  • Strong communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills with proved ability to manage stakeholders effectively at all levels within the organization

  • Displays sound business judgment, leadership, and management skills

  • Collaborative style and demonstrated success contributing to a team environment

$171,120.00 - $256,680.00 USD Annual

Annual Salary for this role is market competitive. Actual salary for all roles will be based upon geographic location, work experience, education, licensure requirements and/or skill level and will be finalized at the time of offer. Depending on the role, a discretionary bonus plan or variable sales incentive may be included.
