This Opportunity

WSP is currently initiating a search for an Early Career Geologist for the Greensboro, NC location. This candidate will have the opportunity to be involved in projects across our Earth & Environment Team and be a part of a growing organization with exciting and impactful projects helping our clients meet their environmental compliance and/or site investigation and remediation goals.

Your Impact

  • Under general supervision, perform routine field work related to soil sampling, soil gas sampling, groundwater sampling, stormwater sampling, drilling oversight, and other assignments as designated.

  • Maintain quality control standards and procedures for accurate and precise measurements.

  • Generate complete, accurate, and concise documentation using electronic systems and field/work site notebook.

  • Conduct Phase I and Phase II Environmental Site Assessments in accordance with ASTM guidelines and industry standards.

  • Comply with safety guidelines and site-specific procedures which include but are not limited to, the maintenance of sample collection, location data, laboratory documentation, and logbooks.

  • Support preparation of technical reports and presentations that explain research, findings, and recommendations to prevent, control, remedy, or clean-up chemical and environmental problems and contamination for internal review.

  • Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources and conduct, and adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures.

  • Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs.

Who You Are

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Geology, Hydrogeology, or closely related discipline.

  • 0 - 1 years of environmental experience, with Phase I/II Environmental Site Assessment, Site investigation and Remediation and report writing experience a plus.

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, as well as critical thinking skills, a must.

  • Ability to understand applicable regulations, interpret analytical data and prepare technical reports.

  • Ability to work schedules conducive to project-specific requirements that may extend beyond the typical workweek.

  • Proficient self-leadership with attention to detail, multi-tasking, and prioritization of responsibilities in a dynamic work environment.

  • Ability to work independently under general supervision, as well as part of a team, to meet business objectives.

  • Basic proficiency with technical writing, office automation and communication software, technology, and tools.

  • Competent interpersonal and communication skills when interacting with others, expressing ideas effectively and professionally to a scientific and non-scientific audience.

  • Must pass drug test, physical and background check and possess a satisfactory driving record in accordance with the Company's driving (MVR) policy.

  • Will be routinely lifting equipment, installing soil borings with hand augers, and carrying laboratory sample coolers etc.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s Degree

  • Professional certification track

  • 40-Hour OSHA Health & Safety Training (HAZWOPER) (29 CFR 1910.120)

  • Basic First Aid and Adult CPR training

  • Member of and/or active participant in local professional practice organizations
