Trinity Health Endoscopy Technician for Gastro in Grand Rapids, Michigan

Description:

Greets and assists patients in the Endoscopy setting; ensures the cleanliness and availability of proper supplies and equipment; assists in Endoscopy cases by handling and troubleshooting equipment.

Education

Minimum: High School diploma or Equivalent.

Preferred: Previous patient care experience and/or technical education in health-related field.

Credentials/Licensure/Certifications

Minimum: Current Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) certification obtained within one week of hire

Related Experience

Minimum: Certified Nursing Assistant, 6 months of experience in direct patient care as a Patient Care Assistant or Processing Technician.

Preferred: One year of experience in an endoscopy department.

Other Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Minimum: Strong written and verbal communication, problem-solving skills. Ability to read and understand English. Ability to balance competing priorities and maintain composure in stressful situations. Strong clerical skills.

Computer Competency

Familiarity with standard desktop and Windows based computer system, including email, e-learning, intranet, and computer navigation. Ability to use other software required to perform essential functions.

Physical/Mental

Ability to lift objects weighing 35 lbs; perform push/pull tasks requiring force up to 35 lbs. Ability to physically operate safe patient movement equipment in compliance with the Safe Patient Movement Policy. Sitting for extended periods of time. Ability to walk, bend, stoop, twist. Ability to hear speech, speak, use near-far vision and fine motor skills. Ability to perform continuous detailed tasks with frequent interruptions and work prioritization.

WORKING CONDITIONS

Multiple simultaneous tasks, team oriented, fast paced, exposure to infectious diseases, sharps, and hazardous liquids. Available to assist nursing personnel for 24/7 on-call support, weekdays, weekends, and holidays. AGES OF PATIENTS SERVED

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

• Assists patients, visitors and families in a professional and helpful manner. Gives accurate information and directions to patients, visitors and families.

• Maintains clean and organized physical work environment; processes work orders and communication with EVS and Facilities Management; orders and maintains inventory of office and patient care supplies.

• Schedules patient procedures.

• Ensures patient safety through proper identification process and giving appropriate directions and assistance when necessary.

• In collaboration with the RN, delivers patient care and observes patient’s condition and progress (or lack of progress) toward defined outcomes; documents observations.

• Supports unit activities by transporting patients, answering patient call lights and responding to patient requests; transporting specimens, blood, non-narcotic pharmaceuticals, supplies, and medical records.

• Ensures proper sterilization of instruments including prep, sterilization, handling, packaging, storage and distribution.

• Collaborates with department Educator to assist in staff training and orientation; documents training.

• Assists the RN with patient care activities acting as a second circulator for minor procedures and endoscopy cases.

• Checks at start of day to ensure procedure room is properly supplied and equipment is correctly set up.

• Operates and adjusts equipment; troubleshoots equipment problems; holds camera; and assists with collection

of specimens.

• Follows direction of surgeon/physician.

• Performs other related duties as assigned.
