UNC Health Care Director, Environmental Services in Goldsboro, North Carolina

Summary:

The Environmental Services Director is responsible for the overall management of the Environmental Services department. The Director leads employees in the accomplishment of cleaning all areas of the hospital in accordance with established schedules, technical and administrative policies/procedures. The Director also ensures the completion of training, counseling, quality inspections, scheduling, evaluating and reporting. The goal is to provide quality service to every patient, every time.

Responsibilities:

  1. Understands, communicates and ensures compliance with healthcare industry EVS-related infection control and cleaning standards and guidelines such as the Practice Guidance for Healthcare Environmental Cleaning.

  2. Develops and implements staffing plans to ensure optimal frequency-based zone coverage across clinical and non-clinical areas.

  3. Ensures teammates have all tools and resources needed to be effective and accomplish their missions.

  4. Remains informed through ongoing professional self-development of healthcare EVS industry best management practices, guidance, standards, materials, products, and tools.

  5. Encourages, supports, and implements teammate development and training plans.

  6. Monitors and responds to budgetary variances to optimize financial performance.

  7. In collaboration with others, takes primary responsibility for developing and implementing integrated waste management and hazardous materials programs including all material and waste streams used and generated by Wayne UNC Health Care.

  8. In collaboration with the Administrative Director of Facility Services and the Executive Team, develops and implements cleaning strategies for off-campus corporate owned, leased, and/or managed properties.

  9. Works closely with Infection Prevention peers to synchronize EVS operations with Infection Prevention and Control best management practices, standards, and guidelines.

  10. Is a member of and works closely with the Facility Services Leadership Team to establish a unified Facility Services division that emphasizes collaboration and seamless service delivery from the Plant Engineering, Construction, Clinical Engineering, Environmental Services, and Laundry Departments.

  11. Develops, implements, and tracks qualitative and quantitative performance metrics, and reports results as defined by the Administrative Director of Facility Services and by the organization.

  12. Directs the completion of performance reviews, incident reports, and ensures correction of performance deficiencies.

  13. In partnership with Human Resources, makes or approves recommendations on hires, transfers, promotions, salary changes, disciplinary actions, terminations, and similar actions. Resolves grievances and other human resource issues in a fair, timely and consistent manner, also in partnership with HR.

Education

• Bachelor degree required.

Licensure/Certification

• Certified Healthcare Environmental Services Professional (CHESP) credential required or obtained within two years from hire date.

Experience

• Five or more years of healthcare or healthcare-related EVS management, or progressively responsible supervisory experience in hospital EVS environment.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

• Considerable knowledge of procedures, materials and equipment used in environmental services.

• Proven leadership qualities, e.g., maturity, job knowledge, professionalism, communication skills, etc. to lead, guide and motivate others.

• Excellent customer service and interpersonal skills.

• Outstanding problem-solving skills.

• Results oriented and able to manage multiple priorities.

• Ability to read, write and communicate effectively in English.

• Proficient with MS Office and able to learn new software rapidly.

Valid NC Driver’s License: Yes

If driving a Wayne UNC Vehicle, must be 21 years old and MVR must be approved by Risk Management.
