48132BRReq No.:48132BRJob Description and Qualifications: Air Products Canada Ltd., a wholly owned subsidiary of Air Products and Chemicals Inc., has manufacturing and distribution operations in Quebec, Ontario, and Alberta. Air Products core industrial gas business provides atmospheric and process gases serving a variety of customers in 50+ countries, including refining, chemical, gasification, metals, electronics, manufacturing, food and beverage, welding, and healthcare.

Air Products and Chemicals, Inc. (NYSE:APD), a Fortune 500 manufacturer of industrial gases, has an immediate opening for a Facilities Manager. This will be based at our new Edmonton Net Zero Hydrogen Energy Complex (Edmonton III) in construction East of Edmonton. Relocation benefits will be offered to qualified candidates.

We currently have three operating hydrogen production plants in Edmonton and Fort Saskatchewan area, enhancing our expertise as the world's preeminent supplier of hydrogen. These plants serve the refining industries and other customers in the local area. The Blue H2 facility consists of one world-scale H2 ATR plant with aMDEA based CO2 capture technology, a Steam Turbine Driven CO2 compressor, LHY plant, ASU with integrated Liquefier, Power Block (consisting of three H2-fired Gas Turbines (GTGs), three HRSG’s, a Steam Turbine Generator, and a Utility plant consisting of a 9-cell cooling tower and reverse osmosis (RO)/electro deionization (EDI) water treatment system. The manufacturing assets have a combined production capacity in excess of 165MMSCFD of Hydrogen, 35MTD of Liquid Hydrogen, 3,400MTD of Carbon Dioxide (and sequestered via pipeline), 150MTD of Liquid Nitrogen, 50MTD of Liquid Oxygen, & 74MW of Power.

We are seeking a seasoned Facility Manager for our new Edmonton Net Zero Hydrogen Energy Complex (Edmonton III) in construction East of Edmonton.

Roles and Responsibilities:

The Manager has full production and distribution accountabilities for the Edmonton III facility. Accountable for improving asset utilization, cost minimization and performance improvement for the facility, this person will supervise and control the operation and maintenance of all production units (H2 Autothermal Reactor (ATR), Liquid Hydrogen (LHy), Air Separation Unit (ASU), and Power Block) and delivery of products in the given geographic region to meet customer requirements safely, efficiently, and successfully. The incumbent continually works collaboratively with the CAN Line Manager, Business Manager, and Sales Manager to optimize services and profits. The Facility Manager is encouraged to develop and maintain productive working relationships with the customer(s).

The Facility Manager coordinates the maintenance activities, plant operation, rolling equipment, and installations to minimize downtime and ensure customer requirements. During periods of crisis, the incumbent is required to respond immediately to provide the management overview to plan, prioritize, and implement proper remedial action. This role is the key focal point for senior leadership and the performing team to reestablish production and/or avoid customer interruptions.

The position has the primary responsibility for the safety of all personnel in their organization. They are responsible to always coordinate and ensure compliance of established safety procedures. They must establish an atmosphere of safety and empower personnel to remain passionate about safety. The position sets the safety goals and ensures safety programs are performed, hazard identification processes are instituted, and initiates accurate strategic action items to improve the overall safety performance.

Key duties include evaluating and approving the use of capital funds for facilities and equipment; sets the goals and direction for productivity and efficiency improvements; establishes systems for cost control, workforce levels, and sets objectives for improved utilization of personnel.

Required Skills / Abilities:

  • Ability to lead, encourage, mentor and recognize the team by empowering people to do their best work.

  • Coordinate EH&S standards to ensure the protection of employees, contractors, the community and the environment.

  • Act as key leader in the sub-region, partnering with the Line Manager, Business Manager, and Technical Support groups to drive profitability and asset optimization within the Alberta region.

  • Direct and supervise plant production to maximize plant efficiency.

  • Provide distribution leadership and identify cost reduction opportunities and lead productivity programs and plans that reduce spending in the distribution cost stack.

  • Organize and control maintenance functions to optimize cost and reliability.

  • Build strong interpersonal connections with the Indigenous and local communities and customer(s).

    Qualifications:

  • B.S. in a technical field, or equivalent subject areas, with 10 years of manufacturing experience in a chemical plant, industrial gas plant, or an operation of equivalent complexity. Engineering degree preferred.

  • Candidates must have at least 5 years of leadership experience in Operations or Plant Management.
