Chart Industries Proposals Engineer - Turbo Blowers in Glasgow, United Kingdom

We are recruiting for a Proposals/Sales Engineer to join our Howden Compressors, Sales and Proposals Team based in Renfrew, Glasgow.

Working as part of a dedicated team, you will have the opportunity to work on exciting and complex projects within energy and industrial markets. You will be focused on Howden’s turbo compressor technology with providing customer solutions for complex engineered projects. As proposal/sales engineer you will evaluate customer requirements and develop technical and commercial proposals for engineered turbo blower and compressor packages in line with international engineering standards and customer specifications. As part of this role you will liaise with the other disciplines of engineering, quality, project management, procurement and operations. In particular when taking the lead in coordinating these teams as part of the Early Engagement process we apply for high chance project bids. There will opportunity to engage directly with clients as part technical discussions and/or early stage presentation of our proposed solutions.

This is a permanent position working Monday to Thursday 8am until 4.15pm & Friday 8am until 2pm. We offer hybrid working for this role which will allow you to enjoy the balance of home working and Collaboration time with the team in our modern friendly offices which includes free onsite parking.

What needs to be done?

  • Act as a single point of contact for client on technical issues and manage company/client relationship to ensure the highest level of service.

  • Review, in conjunction with various functional departments, enquiry documents and obtain clarifications where required to ensure that company design standards and customer specifications are maintained.

  • Preparation of clear and definitive technical and commercial proposals in accordance with defined scopes of supply.

  • Attend Technical Clarification Meetings with customers and sub-contractors when required to clarify any technical issues and meet customer needs. Travel to attend and lead such meetings may be required, however this will be planned in advance.

  • Co-ordinate the proposal process between Sales, Supply Chain and internal functional departments to manage responses in line with the proposal schedule and customer requirements.

  • Work alongside Supply Chain during supplier negotiations to attain competitive pricing and maximise quote performance

  • Specify and procure quotes for major, technically compliant, cost effective items via external sub-vendors to prepare comprehensive proposals and accurate cost estimates.

  • Evaluate competitive bids for equipment in order to provide cost effective solutions

  • Analysis of process needs to select the most competitive solution within the Howden range.

  • Develop an appreciation of heat and material balance, process flow diagrams, piping and instrument diagrams, system design parameters, and design or rating of equipment and apparatus such as heat exchangers, pumps, vessels, etc. ensuring compliance with project specifications.

What would we ideally expect you to bring?

  • Experience of problem solving and proactive in leading the solutions.

  • Ability to deliver results individually and leading within a strong team environment.

  • A keen eye for detail and rigorous approach to accurately defining scope of supply and cost models

  • Good, presentation and communication skill.

  • Good command of English language both written and oral.

  • Educated to Degree level or equivalent

  • Knowledge of rotating equipment is advantageous, however training is provided.

  • Experience in a technical sales/proposals environment is preferable

  • Design experience gained with an engineering contracting company in the field of petrochemicals, refining or general energy industry advantageous.

  • Experience of commercial awareness and/or experience in dealing with clients and suppliers

  • Interpretation of technical process requirements for mechanical equipment selection.

  • Demonstrated negotiating, influencing and inter-personal skills.
