Senior Engineering Manager supporting Pre-Market programs in Galway for TAVR, Congenital and Aortic therapies.

In our Structural Heart Design Assurance Team, our purpose is to increase product development process rigor to ensure robust understanding of designs, documentation of compliance to requirements and timely, high-quality product launches that satisfy patient needs and reduce customer complaint rates.

A Day in The Life Of:

  • Manage, motivate & lead the development of your group(s) thus ensuring a uniform approach to key activities overseeing performance, developing talent, engagement and inclusion, communicating business and operational developments, planning, prioritizing and / or directing their responsibilities.

  • Establish department goals, budgets, measurement and metric systems in line with business objectives to ensure quality standards are achieved and effectively managed.

  • Participate in developing strong links with all functional stakeholders, collaborating with a wide range of departments and levels locally and across the wider Medtronic business as required to develop and harmonize systems and practices.

  • Identify opportunities for improvements and be responsible for assigning and managing resources to support improvement projects.

  • Approve appropriate corrective actions per departmental procedure.

  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of quality system regulations and design control regulations applicable to areas of responsibility ensuring all areas are managed to the highest quality standards in compliance with business and regulatory requirements.

  • Plan, direct and implement all aspects of the company's design and development of new medical device products or software systems.

  • Ensure the quality assurance programs and policies are maintained and modified regularly.

Key Skills & Experience

  • Qualified person to level 8 Degree in Engineering/Science or related discipline with a minimum of 7 years of relevant experience with 5+ years of managerial experience, or advanced degree with a minimum of 5 years of relevant experience with 5+ years of managerial experience

  • Dynamic team player and can work effectively and proactively on cross-functional teams.

  • Broad management knowledge to lead project teams.

  • Collaborate across organizational boundaries and take appropriate actions when problems occur.

  • Experienced professional in engineering development with extensive engineering knowledge and skills in some or all of the following: risk management, component and system design, materials (polymers and metals), sterilization of medical devices, test method development, design for six sigma principles, pre-clinical evaluations, physician interactions, knowledge of anatomical use conditions (anatomy, physiology etc.), system requirements development, design control, application of ISO standards for medical devices.

  • A good communicator and fluent in English, both in writing and speaking

  • High level of enthusiasm and motivation, and the ability to take input from others are desirable.

  • Understanding of mechanical-electrical medical systems, products, and therapies.

  • Strong decision making, judgment and influencing skills.
