Description

My client, a growing nonprofit in Montgomery County is seeking a Controller. The organization has an outstanding mission. Reporting to the CFO, the Controller will work directly with the CFO in implementing and restructuring processes and procedures.

The Controller is responsible for overseeing the implementation and day-to-day management of the accounting department's operations. This role involves providing technical support to the Chief Financial Officer (CFO) in ensuring compliance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and relevant laws and regulations.

While this role will have at least 2 staff reporting to it, the ideal candidate is hands-on.

You will:

Maintain the general ledger, review journal entries, and reconcile accounts.

Establish and oversee the monthly close process to ensure accuracy and completeness.

Manage grants accounting processes, including tracking grant funds and ensuring compliance with grant requirements.

Prepare monthly and annual financial reports in a timely manner for review by the CFO.

Assist the CFO with the annual financial audit, 990 filing, and other program audits.

Implement and manage established internal control processes, procedures, and policies as directed by the CFO.

Maintain state registration files and ensure compliance through payments and other requests.

Monitor and analyze balance sheets, accounts payable, and accounts receivable

Perform other duties as needed or required to support the overall objectives of the accounting department and organization.

Requirements

Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.

CPA certification preferred.

6+ years of experience in accounting or finance roles, with 2+ years in a managerial or supervisory capacity.

Ability to learn new software and technology and make process recommendations.

Ability to manage direct reports, including establishing goals and training when necessary

Extensive knowledge of accounting principles with focus on Not-for-Profit accounting.Strong knowledge of GAAP and financial reporting requirements.

Experience with grants accounting and nonprofit financial management is advantageous.

Proficiency in accounting software and Microsoft Excel.
