Michigan Brand, Inc. Packaging Specialist - 1st shift in Frankenmuth, Michigan

Job purpose

  • Packaging all Michigan Brand products according to USDA and Michigan Brand regulations/procedures.
  • To present the customers with clean, organized, quality packaging with Michigan Brand products of all kinds.

Essential duties and responsibilities

  • Following USDA standards and procedures that are in place to ensure that there is no contamination of the product and to ensure that all products that leave the facility are safe and healthy for all customers.
  • Quality control of all products that are produced at Michigan Brand.  Each Individual employee must take the necessary steps to ensure that quality control is being achieved through eye-checking each product, as it is being packaged to look for any foreign materials that may be on the products, to double-checking co-workers for accurate weights and ensure procedures are being followed to the standards set by Michigan Brand.
  • Must follow and operate each day according to the GMPs (Good Manufacturing Practices) and SOPs (Standard Operating Procedures) to ensure that there is no contamination of product and to ensure that all products are safe and healthy when leaving the facility.
  • Packaging of all Michigan Brand products to the exact steps and guidelines that are in place.
  • Work together in a team environment.  Employees must be able to work with each other and finish tasks as a team.  The entire room or department is not done until responsibilities are complete, and areas are cleaned and sanitized.
  • The weighing of the products must be within the range determined by Management to ensure that all federal and state guidelines are satisfied.
  • Use machinery and various equipment daily.
  • Guide and train any new employees in performing related work to daily duties.
  • Reliability is a must as employees must be present to perform their duties. 
  • Ability to work overtime hours, when needed and in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to follow dress code and sanitation guidelines.
  • Ability to meet the physical requirements noted below with reasonable accommodation.
  • Employee must be physically present at work, on time and able to perform job duties in a diligent fashion.
  • Involvement with inventory management system.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma preferred.
  • Some job history with food handling preferred.
  • Basic math skills (i.e., ability to count) preferred.
  • Ability to stay organized preferred.

Working conditions

Inside regulated, refrigerated rooms may be cold to some individuals.  There is machinery being used inside the rooms, so employees must take certain safety measures when working those machines.  This is a USDA-regulated environment, which means certain guidelines must be met, including dress code standards.

Physical requirements

  • Ability to stand on concrete for 8+ hours in a workday.
  • Ability to lift between 25 to 50 lbs. multiple times within a workday.
  • Ability to lift, twist, turn, and or bend.
