Summary This position is located at the Fort Leavenworth Strike Zone Bowling Center. This announcement may be used to fill additional vacancies throughout the program. Responsibilities Performs a full range of simple cooking by preparing and cooking items such as pancakes, sausage, eggs, hamburgers, fresh or canned vegetables, hot cereals, concentrated soups, sauces and gravies. Prepares food by peeling, chopping, grinding, paring, cutting, slicing, dicing, pureeing, dredging, flouring, or breading, weighing, measuring, and assembling, and mixing ingredients according to precisely written recipes. Operates a variety of kitchen equipment using gas, electricity, steam or microwave heat sources. Disassembles, cleans and assembles component parts and accessories, following safety procedures to avoid personal injury and damage to the equipment. Cleans, stores, and maintains all equipment and work areas after each use. Cleans other work areas and equipment, such as worktables, floors, walk-in refrigerators, etc., on an established cleaning schedule. Covers, dates, and stores leftovers according to established procedures. Follows established sanitation procedures when handling food. Ensures that foods are stored at the correct temperatures to prevent bacteria growth. Other duties as assigned. Requirements Conditions of Employment Qualifications Work experience in preparing foods and cooking simple foods and short orders in a cafeteria, restaurant, or mess. Ability to follow written and verbal instructions to include standard and detailed cooking instructions. Ability to operate, disassemble, and clean basic food service equipment such as griddles, broilers, and food grinders. Ability to perform basic arithmetic to measure ingredients in a recipe. Demonstration of the following work behavior is desirable: a. Neatness and good grooming. b. Dependability. c. Ability to work under pressure. PCS Costs Payment Permanent Change of Station (PCS) costs are not authorized, based on a determination that a PCS move is not in the Government's interest. FWS Allowances and Differentials This is a federal wage schedule (FWS) position. All FWS employees are entitled to overtime work for work in excess of 8 hours in a day or in excess of 40 hours in the administrative workweek, whichever provides the greater benefit to the employee. Regular full-time, regular part-time (to include those in a limited tenure appointment category) and regularly scheduled flexible employees are entitled to Sunday premium pay when working Sunday shifts. A FWS employee will be paid a night shift differential of 7.5% for the entire shift when a majority of the employee's regularly scheduled non-overtime hours of work occur between the hours of 1500 and 2400. A FWS employee will be paid a night shift differential of 10% of the scheduled rate if a majority of the employee's regularly scheduled non-overtime hours of work occur between the hours of 2300-0800. Incentives and Bonuses Incentives will not be paid. Non-Foreign Overseas Allowances Non-foreign overseas allowances, cost of living (COLA), and differentials will not be paid, contingent upon eligibility.
