Description of Work Unit

Environmental Health Services is a professional multidisciplinary team. We promote environmental and occupational health and safety through education, consultation, monitoring and planning in response to present and future needs of CSU . To support the CSU System Board of Governors and CSU policies, we will foster partnerships with the University, the community, and governmental entities.

Position Summary

The Public Health Programs oversee numerous areas relative to regulated health and safety issues across the university. This position will provide coordinator support for this Program within EHS , with occasional support for other EHS units as time permits with approval. This position may at times be the first point of contact for these units. This position will provide prompt, reliable and accurate services to the Program Unit leaders to ensure effective program functions with minimal supervision and strict confidentiality. This position will be involved with:

  • Communicable disease support, developing and creating written materials and presentations.

  • Inspections and investigation of establishments support and other environmental situations to ensure compliance.

  • Ability to keep accurate records and communicate effectively both verbal and written.

  • Assists in the preparation of technical reports, correspondence, and other written materials. Prepares written and verbal reports. Enters findings, including daily activities into electronic databases.

  • Assists with coordination of plan reviews, complaints and ensures follow-up action is taken.

  • Assists with foodborne illness complaints, general complaints, and team assignments.

  • Scheduling appointments, maintaining public health calendars and follow up on meetings, trainings, clinics, required documentation, etc.

  • Email management, database entry and maintenance.

  • Responding to questions on aspects of the Public Health Programs and directing to appropriate professional(s).

  • Promotes public health within the community.

  • Takes responsibility to provide exceptional customer service to promote Public Health. Responds promptly to internal and external customer needs.

  • Performs other duties as required.

  • Supporting the business operations to help ensure effective functions for the Public Health programs by providing coordinator support for programmatic elements and health related concerns across the university, which includes:

  • Public Health Initiatives and Communicable Disease Response

  • Food Safety

  • Special Event Review and Approvals

  • Pool Sanitation

  • Indoor Air Quality

  • Pest and Animal Management (not research related)

Minimum Qualifications

To be considered for this position, candidates must demonstrate in the application materials:

  • 3 years’ of experience in the health care field or health department agency, OR a combination of experience and university coursework in environmental health, public health, or a related field may substitute for the required experience.

Duty/Responsibility

• Duties related to each Program will be performed under direction and oversight of the specific unit leader in Public Health.

• Assist in the preparation of technical reports such as yearly expenditures, charts, tables and graphs showing unit accomplishments and needs.

• Assist in preparing and giving presentations such as food safety training and public health trainings.

• Prepare correspondence, other written materials and communications, and emails that are sent to individuals in related programs.

• Enter data into databases to track regulatory and programmatic information and assist with calendaring of inspections of the units.

• Assist with public health complaints, inspections and enter information into the database on findings, resolutions and follow-up on any unresolved issues.

• Prepare/proofread/update/modify correspondence/communications, reports, presentations, and other materials as needed.

• Maintaining calendars, scheduling appointments and answering questions.

• Answering/referring questions related to Public Health services (e.g. inspections, audits, clinics, training, etc.).

• Email management

• Assist with special event inquiries and event approvals.

• Database entry and data management via Access, and online databases.

• Report generation from the databases and Excel spreadsheets.

• Develop documents/spreadsheets in support of service needs and databases as needed.

• Prepare and maintain ongoing lists for clinics, trainings, individuals needing services, action items and programmatic needs, etc.

• Inventory management and maintaining supplies, equipment, and calibration schedules.

• Maintain paper, electronic and stored records

• Assist in the organizing and expediting program workflow; initiating follow-up actions as needed.

• Problem-solving in numerous areas such as data input by outside and inside entities, problems with correspondence messaging, procedural steps, and processes.
