Description of Work Unit

The Classroom Support & Media Services team is an integral part of the Academic Technology department within the Division of Information Technology (DoIT). At the heart of our mission lies a strong commitment to supporting and enriching the teaching and learning experience at our university.

As specialists in audio-visual technology integration and media support, our team plays a vital role in ensuring the seamless operation, ongoing support, and continuous innovation of equipment and resources utilized in general assignment classrooms and various academic spaces.

Our collaborative approach fosters strong partnerships with faculty, students, and other university stakeholders. We actively engage with them to provide technical assistance, deliver effective audio-visual solutions, and create an environment that optimizes the overall educational experience. Position Summary

The AV Technician works closely with the Classroom Support Services team to install, maintain, and support CSU’s classroom environment. This position is responsible for audiovisual (A/V) equipment installation, software installation, validation of custom control systems, repair of instructional technology equipment, and related electronic equipment located in University facilities. The results of such decisions serve to preserve the reliability of technology campus-wide.

Conditions of Employment Pre-employment Criminal Background Check (required for new hires), Valid Driver’s License, Shift Work Monday – Friday 1pm-10pm.

Must be able to meet the physical demands of job which include, but not limited to, ability to lift 50 pounds, climb, crawl, stoop, lay down, extensive walking, use power tools, climb ladders, etc.

Position Minimum Qualifications

  • High school dipoloma

  • One year experience troubleshooting, installing, and configuring AV systems such as projectors, PTZ cameras, document cameras, microphone/sound systems, touch screen technology

  • Ability to operate a PC to communicate, access files and update AV software

  • Ability to use tools for systems installations (drills, saws, test equipment).

  • Ability to climb and work on ladders and in confined spaces (under floors and in ceilings).

Preferred Qualifications

  • Two or four-year degree in a field related to electronics, computer technology, engineering, or other fields requiring electronic communication equipment

  • Industry certifications related to electronics and/or AV equipment.

  • Technical expertise in video capture systems and streaming technologies

  • Ability to work independently and make decisions within a defined protocol

  • Excellent verbal and written communication and customer service skills

Duty/Responsibility

  • Perform installation and upgrade of AV equipment (projectors, signal switchers, microphone systems, control systems, touch-screen devices, lecture capture equipment and streaming cameras in classroom environments as needed based on available funds.

  • Determine the most efficient method and order for hardware installation, adhering to local and industry standards and codes.

  • Communicate and acquire static IP addresses from other subnet managers on campus and by department to ensure audio visual connectivity.

  • Frequent use of link runners and meters.

  • Configure and install listening assistance devices for hearing impaired students and for the purpose of captioning services.

  • Work quickly with emergency situations pertaining to lecture capture and audio-visual equipment installations.

  • Work through complex transcoding issues and resolve.

  • Responsible for transcoding digital content from one format to another utilizing various types of conversion hardware and software.

  • Independently diagnoses of a system, determining whether the resolution is hardware or software related is required. Issues are either successfully resolved or escalated to senior support staff.

  • Respond to helpdesk ticket requests related to AV equipment not working properly.

  • Responsible for receiving, storing, organizing and tracking of hardware inventory purchased for classroom support.

  • Met with clients onsite to provide training and proper use of equipment.
