University Advancement Engagement designs and delivers the donor experience at CSU . As the central team with responsibility for donor relations, stewardship, events, and marketing/communications, we provide comprehensive, strategic engagement opportunities that increase Ram Pride, strengthen donor and alumni connections to the University, and inspire philanthropy at CSU . Position Summary

With the goal of becoming a $200M/year fundraising institution, the Associate Director of Principal Gifts Stewardship position is designed to envision, build, and execute a donor-centric principal gifts stewardship program that elegantly and respectfully recognizes and appreciates CSU’s community of transformational donors and ensures their gifts are stewarded appropriately.

This position will contribute to this goal by managing existing high-level stewardship activities, cultivating relationships of collaboration with key internal partners, attending strategy meetings on transformational donor journeys, and executing high-level stewardship efforts for top donors on individualized engagement plans. This includes monitoring important giving and personal milestones and curating new ideas for opportunities that celebrate milestones, supporting stewardship visit planning of transformation donors, and building relationships with beneficiaries of transformative donor giving.

This position will infuse diversity, equity, and inclusion into all aspects of their work in order to contribute to ensuring donors of all backgrounds feel represented and included.

Required Job Qualifications

  • At least 5 years of experience in advancement, marketing, communications, or related field.

  • Bachelor’s degree obtained from an accredited university by position start date.

  • Demonstrated ability to engage and effectively communicate with diverse audiences.

  • Ability to work non-standard hours, including early mornings, evenings, and weekends.

  • Must have a valid driver’s license or the ability to obtain a driver’s license or access to a licensed driver by the employment start date.

Preferred Job Qualifications

  • Experience in major gift fundraising or with high-end constituent relations/relationship management

  • Outstanding communicator with strong impact writing and storytelling skills

  • Demonstrated understanding of portfolio management and/or donor journeys

  • Experience leading project-based teams and managing multiple projects simultaneously from the planning stages to execution and analysis.

  • Proven ability to work with a high level of independence, maintain confidentiality, prioritize assignments, and manage time effectively.

  • Expert communications skills including the ability to produce impact stories, acknowledgments, basic videos, impact reports, and basic graphic design; exercising strong attention to detail and to the visual appeal of the presented materials

  • Demonstrated interpersonal skills to foster and maintain effective relationships with colleagues, donors, and University leadership, who may have competing interests and priorities

  • Ability to exercise a high degree of diplomacy, discretion, and collaboration in working with a diverse range of constituents

Duty/Responsibility

  • Develop a comprehensive principal gift stewardship plan, including establishing goals, objectives and strategies that comply with industry best practices, enhance the image of the university, and attract and retain donors.

  • Develop a tiering system and craft strategic plan for stewarding major gift donors at CSU

  • Establish strategy, goals, metrics, and systems for success and advise UA leadership on progress.

  • Develop process to track compliance and spending for key gift funds

  • Be primary principal gifts storyteller, building relationships across CSU and connections with beneficiaries to access and create content

  • Work collaboratively with the Principal Gifts Fundraising position(s) and the Strategic Excellence team

  • Educate campus partners on principal gift stewardship plan and ways to collaborate

  • Examine programming with a lens of diversity and inclusion for the audience, ensuring that the programming is inclusive of all backgrounds and is representative of various identities.

Duty/Responsibility

  • Using creativity in storytelling paired with an understanding of the donor experience, develop and execute robust, individualized engagement plans ( IEP ) for select donors

  • Serve as a member of the development team by attending prospecting and/or strategy meetings on top donors

  • Monitor special milestones and infuse their recognition into individualized engagement plans

  • Lead special recognition, engagement, and stewardship projects for select donors

  • Curate customized, highly personalized donor gifts for key donors.

  • Support high-level donor visits and personalized events

  • Infuse campaign messaging and collateral into individualized engagement plans

  • Contribute to regular brainstorming on innovative, unique, and personalized stewardship

  • Serve as subject matter expert, staying current on creative stewardship strategies and best practices.

  • Use cultural competency and inclusive excellence to develop successful relationships with partners, donors, and alumni of various identities. Consider how all populations feel represented through various engagement efforts.

Duty/Responsibility

  • By managing existing and also growing new high-level stewardship actives, this position also supports the needs of the Donor Relations and Stewardship Team and offers additional consultation on stewardship activities based in the colleges and units.

  • Create, maintain, and disseminate principal gifts stewardship toolkit and other resources to empower others in UA to execute stewardship for donors not qualified for an IEP , including ideas for campaign readiness.

  • Offer consultations and guidance on stewardship ideas for donors not on an IEP .

  • Manage Oval Brick recognition program, celebrating donors who have fulfilled their commitment of $1M+.

  • Manage VPUA and Presidential Acknowledgments, including crafting and sending messages of gratitude

  • Contribute to other donor relations and stewardship activities as assigned

  • Analyze and track project budgets
