Cummins Inc. Industrial Maintenance Technician in Fletcher, North Carolina

DESCRIPTION

We are looking for a talented Industrial Maintenance Technician to join our team specializing in Manufacturing for our Cummins Inc. facility in Fletcher, NC.

In this role, you will make an impact in the following ways:

  • Expert Troubleshooting and Maintenance : Your comprehensive knowledge of electrical systems will ensure efficient troubleshooting, assembly, installation, testing, and maintenance, minimizing downtime and enhancing productivity.

  • Resource Coordination : By selecting and utilizing appropriate resources, tools, machinery, and specialty equipment, you will optimize operations and support the team effectively.

  • Safety Leadership : Your thorough understanding of safety protocols and commitment to HSE standards will promote a safe working environment, preventing injuries and ensuring compliance with regulations.

  • Quality Assurance : Applying high standards of workmanship and craftsmanship, you’ll perform quality inspections, support equipment failure analysis, and ensure process documents and quality procedures are up to date.

  • Process Improvement : You will actively identify issues, solve problems, and implement solutions to improve processes, reduce manufacturing constraints, and enhance overall efficiency.

  • Team Coordination : Acting as a formal resource, you’ll lead and coordinate team members, especially those with less experience, fostering a collaborative and supportive work environment.

  • Environmental Responsibility : Recognizing the environmental impact of your work, you will strive to minimize negative effects and engage in HSE training to promote sustainability.

  • Effective Communication : By communicating effectively with your team and support teams, you’ll ensure smooth operations, participate in Total Productive Maintenance (TPM) initiatives, and contribute to continuous improvement efforts.

RESPONSIBILITIES

To be successful in this role you will need the following:

  • Proactive Health and Safety Practices : Champion and model proactive health and safety behaviors by identifying, reporting, and participating in actions to improve health and safety, contributing to an injury-free workplace.

  • Hazard Recognition and Control : Recognize and address hazards related to electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems in the manufacturing environment, incorporating safe practices and procedures into your daily work plan.

  • Electrical Troubleshooting Skills : Analyze and resolve electrical control system issues to ensure systems are returned to proper operating conditions efficiently.

  • Automation and Control Systems Expertise : Implement changes to automate manufacturing processes using available technology and programming techniques, ensuring optimal automation and efficiency.

  • Machine Programming Abilities : Design and implement machine programs to improve the usage and overall operation of factory floor machines, enhancing productivity.

  • Comprehensive Manufacturing Knowledge : Apply your knowledge of manufacturing to correctly implement changes in processes, equipment, and applications, driving continuous improvement and meeting functional needs.

Education/Experience

  • High school diploma or certificate of completion of secondary education or equivalent experience to the extent such experience meets applicable regulations.

  • This position may require licensing for compliance with export controls or sanctions regulations.

  • Significant work experience and in-depth knowledge obtained through specialized training and relevant experience.

QUALIFICATIONS

Additional Information

PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Respond to all equipment failures with speed and accuracy to minimize production downtime.

  • Perform maintenance per Preventive Maintenance schedule.

  • Always prioritize safe maintenance practices and report deficiencies to supervision

  • Provide technical and electrical support for all equipment and/or machinery as required to ensure minimal downtime in producing customer orders.

  • Ability to install, maintain, and troubleshoot relay logic, ladder diagrams, control components-- photo eyes, motor starters, relays, limit switches, proximity sensors, timers, solenoids, servo drives, frequency inverters, linear drives, tachometers, and encoders.

  • Ability to troubleshoot PLC programs, ladder logic (read use for troubleshooting), components (CPU back planes, I/O boards, counters, modules, and devices) and communications modules (Ethernet).

  • Ability to troubleshoot 6 axis robotics (FANUC & ABB), including running cables, teaching points and homing positions.

  • Work closely with Manufacturing Engineers to increase availability and effectiveness of work processes and machines.

  • Assist in relocation of equipment and machinery for moves and special events (as required)

  • Operate and use all devices, tools and equipment in a safe manner and ensure safe operation during all use.

  • Thoroughly understand and perform required lock-out tag-out procedures in a safe manner prior to any maintenance on machines.

  • Contribute to determination of RCA for equipment breakdowns.

  • Ensure compliance with all Environmental, Health, and Safety Programs

COMPENTENCIES:

  • Ability to walk, stand, bend, stoop, and lift for up to 10 hours.

  • Ability to lift up to 40 pounds.

  • Ability to work a flexible schedule and overtime as needed.

  • Ability to read and interpret work instructions, drawings, schematics, blueprints, and/or other diagrams.

  • Ability to troubleshoot malfunctioning equipment and perform necessary repairs in a safe and timely manner.

  • Ability to identify opportunities for mechanical and electrical improvements on new and aging machines and equipment within the facility.

  • Ability to multi-task in a high noise and high activity environment

  • Basic computer skills

  • Fork truck, scissor lift, crane experience preferred.
