Job Description

BASIC PURPOSE: Prepares patients and performs all technical aspects of EKG testing. Performs EKG as needed by the department/facility. Assists with EKG reporting processing and all department functions.

  • Prepares adult and pediatric patients for EKG test; obtains patient history and any contraindications, explains testing techniques, applies electrodes; performs EKG testing as needed by department and facility; maintains safety and infection control measures

  • Prepares patients for various cardiovascular (stress) testing, using protocol specific electrode application

  • Coordinates and prepares EKG for interpretation by cardiologist; communicates with cardiologist on all aspects of testing and references required

  • Attends departmental and quality assurance meetings according to departmental needs; maintains accurate departmental records and files for EKG; assists in departmental performance improvement efforts; maintains clinical competencies and credentials and participates in accreditation efforts as required by governing bodies

  • Serves as a preceptor to new employees

  • Proficient in Epic and MUSE

  • Prepares completed studies for physician interpretation; performs EKG studies as requested by the physician and prepares completed studies for scanning and physician interpretation

  • Check all hospital EKG machines daily to ensure they are stocked and cleaned after each patient. Monitor EKG equipment and report any malfunctions.

MINIMUM EDUCATION

Required Minimum Education:

High School Diploma/or GED

Preferred Education: 2 year/Associate Degree

Specialty/Major: Allied Health

LICENSURE/CERTIFICATIONS (must be non-expired/active unless otherwise stated):

Required: BLS certification by end of orientation period.
