DEPARTMENT: Egan School of Nursing & Health

BASIC FUNCTION:

Under the general direction of the Director of Clinical Placements, manages and arranges quality clinical experiences for all students in the Egan School of Nursing & Health Studies.

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILL NEEDED:

  • Excellent oral and written communication, interpersonal, and networking skills. Strong organizational skills and attention to accuracy, detail, and follow-through. Ability to work independently, multi-task, use good judgment, work under pressure, and meet deadlines.

  • Superior customer service orientation. Demonstrated ability to negotiate, creatively problem solve and interact within diverse agency settings. Demonstrated history of positive attitude and collaborative work with diverse populations in team environment approach.

  • Strong leadership, project management, analytical and strategic skills. Must be a strong, innovative self-starter, with a demonstrated ability to work autonomously and proactively when required.

  • Demonstrated ability to meet deadlines and follow schedules.

  • Proficient computer skills and demonstrated knowledge of data management information systems including MS Access databases.

  • Current experience in clinical settings is preferred

EDUCATION: A Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing or relevant field and one year of clinical and/or management experience in a health care or educational setting required or an equivalent combination of education and experience

EXPERIENCE: Experience with interagency communication and contract negotiation is preferred.

REPORTS TO: Director of Clinical Placements

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Works with the administrative team to identify clinical placement needs for students each semester and works with the identified clinical sites to secure those placements.

  • Takes initiative and outreach to identify and collaboratively partner with new regional health care providers, students, alumni, and other interested parties to increase the placement site base for programs.

  • Responsible for planning, coordinating, establishing, evaluating, and maintaining site placements and preceptors for student clinical experiences.

  • Ensures appropriate, quality clinical experiences for students in the Egan School based on specified requirements, goals, and practice specialty.

  • Develops new clinical site recruitment, collaborative relationships with existing site preceptors, contract negotiations and finalization, student clinical scheduling, clinical contacts, and site visits.

  • Maintains continuing dialogue with current and potential new clinical site agencies via phone, email, or written letters. Provide consultation and recommendation on the selection of sites and contractual implications. Communicate information about clinical agency needs to faculty and staff to foster productive and ongoing clinical placement relationships

  • Partners with faculty teaching clinical courses, and administrators to identify the additional site placements needed annually to accommodate enrolled students in their clinical courses.

  • Directs the recruitment of new clinical agency sites and preceptors. Visits potential agencies to evaluate resources, available preceptors, client population served, clinic mission and goals, and range of clinical services provided. Makes recommendations regarding the best use of the site and communicates that information to faculty.

  • Collaborates with Egan Operations Coordinator to execute and maintain new clinical site contracts. Takes responsibility for obtaining and organizing other legal and accreditation requirements.

  • Collaborates with faculty to match student clinical requirements to current placement sites.

  • Develops and maintains operating protocols for site recruitment and visits. Maintain and evaluate current clinical sites. Prepare reports and make recommendations to clinical and academic leadership for specialty appropriateness and ongoing use of sites and preceptors.

  • Develops an environment where the Egan School is a desirable commodity among clinicians and peers. Implement programs for preceptor orientation and training activities including special events and workshops. Foster relationships and demonstrate an appreciation of preceptors.

  • Interfaces with clinical agencies to motivate and develop incentives for clinical preceptors with a focus towards building, strengthening, and maintaining appropriate clinical placements.

  • Ensures effective collaboration, communication, and coordination among track coordinators, students, preceptors, and clinical agencies under current contracts.

  • Evaluates and responds to inquiries regarding site placements. Participate in issues and problems involving clinical sites and student placements.

  • Participates in the maintenance of data systems to collect critical statistics for program accreditation.

  • Attends and participates in selected faculty meetings to discuss strategic plans to enhance site base and the use of clinical agencies across specialties as needed.

  • Collaborates with Egan Leaders to coordinate semi-annual partnership council meetings.

  • Participates in special projects as needed.

  • Participates in the professional development of the Egan School. This involves:

  • promoting efficiency and courtesy throughout the University community

  • participating in departmental/staff meetings as necessary

  • serving as a responsible committee representative as requested

  • communicating effectively with supervisor concerning pertinent matters

  • Promotes safe and secure working conditions. This involves:

  • promoting the proper utilization of equipment, tools, and materials

  • notifying supervisor immediately regarding any unsafe working conditions

  • Performs other duties as related or dictated by responsibilities.
