USSC R&D Engineer- Fire Suppression in Exton, Pennsylvania

Reference #: 2542212 Description Summary: The R&D Engineer is responsible for designing new products and making improvements to our automatic water mist fire suppression systems. In doing so the R&D Engineer should understand industry requirements, regulations and trends, evaluate and develop products, parts, processes & materials for fire suppression and/or detection effectiveness as well as cost efficiency and reliability. The R&D Engineer will also work with other members of the staff to ensure that new designs and design changes are completed in a timely manner.

Job Title: R&D Engineer - Fire Suppression Classification: Exempt

Responsibilities: As the R&D Engineer you will develop new designs from concept through to productization and production release. This includes: New product or product variant conceptualization Materials Selection Structural Analysis Test Plan Development & Testing Support Fire Testing New Fluids & Designs Preliminary CAD models, drawings and prototypes Adapting Fire Suppression Systems Into New Markets Production Line Support & Training Quotation & Cost Estimating Support Support the Development of Work Instructions & Visual Assembly Procedures Production release models and drawings Maintaining these items in an MRP system. Product Illustrations for Manuals and Catalogs Manage multiple projects simultaneously and bring them from concept to completion on-time and within budget. Work directly with customers to ensure that the final deigns meets all of their specification. Attend site visits/first fit into vehicle; will require up to 25% travel. Work directly with vendors & QC to ensure incoming parts meet all specifications. Support customers, sales, production and fabrication. Perform other duties as assigned. Requirements You're a great fit for this position if this describes you; Bachelors Degree in Fire Protection Engineering or Mechanical Engineering or equivalent experience. 3-5 years experience regardless of the type of degree. Basic knowledge of manufacturing concepts. Basic DC electrical knowledge such as reading schematics & creating wire harnesses for vehicles. Excellent written communications skills, including the use of proper spelling, punctuation, and grammar to produce error-free copy, particularly composing letters, reports and documents used for decision making. Outstanding oral communication skills including tack and diplomacy which would be utilized during vendor communications, conflict management, development of relationships with internal and external contact. Demonstrated ability to manage multiple and diverse projects including analytical thinking, planning, prioritizing, problem solving, decision making, creativity in presenting options and accurately carrying out assignments with minimal supervision. Ability to define complex problems, collect data, establish facts, draw valid conclusions, evaluate options and, considering the relative costs and benefits of potential actions to choose the most appropriate one, implement solutions. Ability to read & understand blueprints, technical drawings and manuals. Must be at least an intermediate user in Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook. Must have experience with 3D CAD (Solidworks and PDM is preferred). Must have an understanding of MRP or ERP system; Syteline (Infor) experience a plus. Experience in the fire suppression industry a plus. Ability to respond and adapt to change favorably and quickly. Ability to carry out assigned projects with minimal supervision. Requires lifting up to 65 lbs. of component parts & prototype assemblies.
