Candidates will be placed on the appropriate step of the career ladder based on their experience and licensure.

Responsibilities:

  • Administer high-risk therapies (e.g., Nitric Oxide, Tracheal Gas Insufflation).

  • Perform advanced functions in various settings (OR, ED, Cath Lab, etc.).

  • Conduct procedures like bronchoscopy, ABG lab troubleshooting, pulmonary function tests, EEG, EKG, stress testing, and 24-hour monitoring.

  • Monitor patient responses to therapy and assist with breathing exercises.

  • Maintain patient charts and order equipment repairs.

  • Demonstrate procedures to trainees and supervise students.

  • Assist in transporting ventilated patients and respond to code situations.

  • Evaluate medical orders and interpret clinical data to optimize patient care.

  • Set up and operate respiratory therapy equipment, ensuring safe and efficient function.

  • Act as Lead Respiratory Therapist when needed, providing problem-solving, training, and technique demonstration.

Education and Experience:

  • Graduate of a CoARC-approved Respiratory program.

  • Alternatively, 5-7 years of experience or NBRC Certification if no Associate’s degree.

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred.

  • 2 years of respiratory care experience, including 1 year in critical care.

  • Complete one approved project annually, starting within 3 months of hire.

Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:

  • CPR certification (AHA standards) within 30 days of hire.

  • Pennsylvania: RCP license and RRT from NBRC.

  • Maryland: Respiratory Therapist license.

  • Maintain NBRC certification if credentialed after July 1, 2002.

Certifications:

  • Basic Life Support (BLS) or Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR).

  • Osteopathic Respiratory Care or Respiratory Care Practitioners (RCP).

  • Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT).
