Northrop Grumman Aeronautics Systems (NGAS) is seeking a Manager Software Engineering 2 to join the Vehicle Engineering Software Engineering organization as a Software Section Manager, reporting to the Air Dominance Software Center Director. This position is located onsite at El Segundo, CA facilities.

The successful candidate will have the following duties and responsibilities:

  • Manage employees responsible for engineering products across the entire software engineering lifecycle.

  • Assist in the development and implementation of departmental vision and strategies regarding people, processes, and tools.

  • Collaborate with program stakeholders to ensure deliverables meet technical quality, cost, and schedule objectives by gathering and reporting metrics.

  • Coordinate with program leadership to manage software staffing profiles for a large team of software engineers.

  • Participate in program functional support activities to improve execution including process audits, independent review team evaluations, tiger teams, root cause analysis, NAR/ICE, and pre-milestone reviews.

  • Provide excellent communication, mentoring, interpersonal skills to collaborate with senior management, peers, and employees.

  • Provide ownership for the people, processes, and tools that support the National Software organization policies, procedures, and objectives.

  • Accountable for implementing improvements across employee engagement, hiring, development, training, attraction, and retention of top software talent.

  • Periodically evaluate, measure, and report software depth of knowledge requirements of critical skills to mentor, develop, and train team members.

  • Interfacing with all levels of leadership to maintain and exceed health and performance for programs.

  • Champion engagement activities to improve the workplace environment.

  • Assist with employee performance management, goal development, career counseling, performance evaluations and reviews, leadership development, and knowledge retention.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelors of Science degree in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math) discipline with 9 years of software engineering experience, or Masters of Science degree with 7 years of software engineering experience, or PhD with 4 years of software engineering experience.

  • Prior experience in leading a software team of at least 10 employees across the full software development lifecycle.

  • Experience with one or more of the following software development languages/technologies: C/C++, Java, Python, C#.

  • Currently possess an active DoD Secret clearance.

  • Ability to obtain and maintain a DoD Top Secret clearance.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated experience with leading incorporation of agile methodologies.

  • Experience within the aerospace/defense industry.

  • Advanced Degree in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, or Math).

  • Agile project management experience.

  • Knowledge and experience with secure software development lifecycle concepts.

  • Experience in functional management.

  • Active DoD Top Secret clearance.

  • Self-directed technical leader with strong verbal and written communication skills.

  • Excellent communication (written, oral, and presentation) and engagement skills.

Salary Range: $151,900 - $227,900

The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
