Department Summary:

The Space Warfighting Division of MITRE’s Air and Space Forces Center is well positioned to help the US Space Force and the national security enterprise provide a combat ready space enterprise to defeat peer threats, provide freedom of action in and dominate the space domain, and deliver world-class capabilities from space to support national security operations. The Division successfully delivers high impact solutions in support of our sponsors to include Space Command and Control; Positioning, Navigation and Timing and Military Satellite Communications; Space Domain Awareness; space enterprise architecture; space systems integration; and first-of-their-kind operational space capabilities that protect space assets and defend joint forces from space-enabled attack. The Division team is primarily located in our Colorado Springs and Los Angeles locations. It is focused on driving enterprise-based, operationally relevant space warfighting capabilities from concept through operations and sustainment. The Division integrates space solutions for joint warfighting dominance, leveraging deep technical expertise and partnerships to provide solutions for our stakeholders’ hardest space problems. The division requires a Division Operations Lead (DOL) that has shown the ability to integrate across a Division, with the ability to collaborate and communicate successfully at all levels.

Job Description:

The DOL will directly support the Space Warfighting Division Managing Director (MD) and will work collaboratively with other Space Warfighting leaders (e.g., Division Chief Engineer (CE), Department Managers, Outcome Leads, Department Chief Engineers, Project Leaders as well as Air & Space Forces Center (A&SFC) MDs, Division CEs, DOLs and Business Operations staff) to successfully execute the Division strategy and advance key outcomes across the Air and Space Forces Center. The DOL will partner with Human Resources, Finance, Center and Sector leaders, and will also engage with key Sponsors to help the MD manage relationships and shape the Division work program.

  • Work across the organization to support the Division team in developing and implementing the Space Warfighting strategy.

  • Collaborate with leadership to help shape and execute vision, goals, objectives, strategies, measures and roadmaps and drive organizational performance.

  • Partner across the Division and A&SFC as required to achieve objectives.

  • Collaborate across the Division to track and ensure quality and timely completion of multiple diverse, and quick-turn taskers. Help to ensure Division leadership visibility and completion of priority tasks.

  • In close collaboration with Finance, track financial performance and actions necessary to achieve goals.

  • Coordinate and organize annual MRT process, ensuring on-time delivery of inputs across division projects, setting up reviews, tracking work package status.

  • Develop agendas for and facilitate leadership team meetings. Coordinate monthly division meetings (e.g.,PL/GL tagup, FFRDC Management Office tagup) and bi-weekly Leadership meetings by working with MD on agenda, reminders, special topics, award/work anniversary tracking.

  • Participate in project reviews; capture and track all action items to closure.

  • Create the quarterly and yearly highlight reports and share them with the Division and key Sponsors.

  • Support Division leadership developing content for A&SFC Program Management Reviews, on-sites, site visits.

  • Assist in coordinating and streamlining division processes, communication, and tools to ensure efficient and effective business operations.

  • Collaborate with leadership and admin staff for Offsite planning and execution

  • Ensure division collaboration channels, meeting attendees and division organizational charts are up to date.

  • Closely track division activities and Business Ops tempo.

  • Responsible for the day-to-day business operations working directly with the Division Leadership Team.

  • Develop processes and tools to track division-level activities, initiatives, and opportunities, in a centralized calendar to ensure awareness, adequate planning time, cross-division collaboration, and identification of synergies/partnerships.

  • Developt and maintain division-level business calendar view to include MRT timeline, MIP/Capstone/Firefly key dates, and other significant business dates.

  • Coordinate Awards, Highlights and Publications.

    Technical Capability:

  • Understand the breadth of the division’s work program. This will require the DOL to have or develop basic knowledge of the Division portfolio.

  • Work Leadership/Management :

  • Help develop and understand the overarching Space Warfighting Division outcomes/goals, ensuring the work programs are on track; provide information in time to influence key decisions.

  • Conduct day-to-day business operations working directly with the N110 leadership team to resolve assigned action items that come from within the Space Warfighting Division or from A&SFC, MNS, MITRE and Sponsors.

  • Scope and Scale:

  • The scope of the DOL position spans across the entire Space Warfighting Division. The DOL will play a role in supporting development and tracking of over-arching division goals and ensure the department-level outcomes and work programs are on track and aligned with division goals.

  • Work hand-in-hand with the Director on initiatives (e.g., onsite/offsite planning, STE and budget planning, A&SFC strategic initiatives).

  • Help identify collaborative opportunities within and across both the A&SFC and MITRE to develop shared outcomes.

  • Engagement:

  • Because of its depth and breadth, the DOL role encompasses engagement with Sponsors and Center senior leaders.

  • Environment:

  • High-paced, demanding position with potential for great intrinsic rewards.

  • Flexibility may be required in working hours to accommodate MITRE leadership and sponsor deadlines.

  • Travel may be required up to 10%.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Typically requires a Bachelor’s degree and a minimum of 2 years of related experience; or an advanced degree with relevant experience who can immediately contribute at this job step; or equivalent combination of related education and work experience.

  • Demonstrated ability to foster relationship development.

  • Effective communicator with proven collaboration skills.

  • Strong desire to achieve, learn and grow.

  • Ability to effectively speak truth to power.

  • Exceptional technical writing and editing skills.

  • C learance level – active DoD Top Secret

  • Applicants selected for this position will be subject to a government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information or applicants who are eligible for security clearances.

  • This position requires a minimum of 50% hybrid on-site

Preferred Qualifications:

The ideal candidate would be one who is motivated, high energy, self-starting, well organized and has exceptional communication skills (both oral and written). Candidate should have a strong desire to achieve, learn and grow, be assertive and work well under pressure. Knowledge of and experience with the space domain, especially the Division portfolio, and the A&SFC scoring and allocation process and MITRE Requirements Tool (MRT) are desired.

$79,000 - $99,000 - $119,000 Annual
