Plant Manager - The Toro Company

Who Are We?

This individual will be responsible for leading the manufacturing facility in Juarez, Mexico. .

Applicants must be legally authorized to work in the United States. We are unable to sponsor or take over sponsorship of an employment VISA at this time. All employees must also the ability to achieve and maintain an active and valid driver's license and passport for commuting purposes.

Work Location: This employment opportunity is based out of El Paso, TX; however the site location is a manufacturing facility in Juarez, Mexico. Candidates should prepare for an onsite schedule, that includes 5-days on-site at the Juarez manufacturing facility. All employees must also the ability to achieve and maintain an active and valid driver's license and passport for commuting purposes.

What Will You Do?

In order to grow and build a successful career with The Toro Company, you will be responsible for:

  • Assures facility meets all Federal, State, and Local Environmental, Health and Safety regulations.

  • Implement Toro Safety programs including STOP behavioral observation programs to assure the day to day safety of all Toro employees and visitors.

  • Supports Toro sustainability initiatives for natural resource and energy conservation programs

  • Responsible for developing and executing the annual budget including but not limited to capital projects, manpower plans, (direct and indirect) and overhead expenses ensuring achievement of financial, quality, inventory and productivity goals.

  • Monitors operational performance; summarizes operating expenses and performance indicators to ensure expenses do not exceed budget levels and that production performance criteria are met. Conducts Root Cause Counter Measures (RCCM) when criteria are not met.

  • Works directly with the Southern Leadership Team in developing both Long-Range Planning A3's as well as Annual Plan A3's.

  • Develops and oversees the completion of the facility's annual capital plan to provide adequate capacity, aggressive quality improvement and cost reduction initiatives. Oversees the development and submission of IAR's for the facility.

  • Leads the Lean Enterprise transformation consistent with TBS (Toro Business Systems) for the extrusion plant by implementing lean manufacturing tools and techniques within the operation as well as with business systems.

  • Conducts daily Gemba walk as part of the facility tier review process including leading the Tier 4 Daily Operational Status Meeting

  • Oversee the implementation and ongoing management of Total Productive Maintenance (TPM) for improved plant performance including effective use of the CMMS and autonomous maintenance

  • Champion for continuous improvement implementing changes to stay competitive in all areas of quality, cost, product availability, inventory control, customer service and employee relations.

  • Responsible for the development of improved methods, layouts, equipment, techniques and processes to maintain and improve the competitive nature of the manufacturing area.

  • Responsible for creating an environment which values employees, serves our customers and provides a fair return to owner.

  • Directly supervises plant management staff including 6 direct and matrixed reports; manufacturing area personnel (90 -120 employees) as indirect reports overseeing 15 extrusion lines and its auxiliary equipment.

  • Ensures training as required to assure the team is qualified and competent

  • Responsible for deployment of the Toro Ag Division Quality Management system assuring all production is compliant to established quality standards.

  • Maintains shop floor data collection systems providing daily, weekly and monthly production reports

  • Reviews and approves facility expenditures assuring an effective manufacturing operation while meeting budgetary objectives

  • Responsible for inventory integrity including, but not limited to, daily adjustments and overall management of the cycle count program. Reviews and signs inventory adjustments/cycle count forms

  • Maintains good and consistent communications with all employees across all levels to keep them well abreast of facility, division and company plans and objectives as well as performance to same.

  • Supports Product Development trials with line time and technical guidance.

  • Responsible for achieving monthly financial performance commitments

  • Assures proper staffing to meet production schedules during peak and non-peak operations while meeting financial responsibilities. Oversees hiring, termination recommendations, and performance management of all facility employees

What Do You Need?

To be considered for this role, an individual should meet the following minimal requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering or related field. Demonstrated understanding of the principles and applications associated with manufacturing operations, quality control, engineering, and maintenance is required.

  • Ten (10) plus years of progressive manufacturing experience including plastics extrusion/production preferred.

  • Hands on experience with Lean principles is strongly preferred

  • Strong leadership, team building, organizational development, coaching and communication skills with a demonstrated ability to motivate people, assess and develop employee skills.

  • Excited to be hands on, working with the production team on continuous improvement, process optimization, and process development projects. Driven with a high internal standard for personal and facility performance

  • Willing and able to make facility level decisions independently on a regular basis, generally consulting with the Director of Operations on decisions that may affect timelines, profit margins, other departments, and capitalized projects.

  • Excellent planning and organizational skills, with the ability to balance production and maintenance needs. Works well with ambiguity.

  • Must have strong oral and written communication skills Must have excellent interpersonal skills and be able to work closely with subordinates, peers and higher levels of management. Effective in working within a highly matrixed organization.

  • Highly motivated, results oriented with the ability to work independently, under pressure, manage and prioritize multiple initiatives concurrently, attend to details, and meet deadlines

  • Holds self and others to a high standard of personal and facility performance

  • Understanding and practical application of financial data combined with strong analytical and decision-making skills

  • Ability to travel up to 15%
