Opportunity Builders Community 1:1 Direct Support Professional (DSP) in Edgewater, Maryland

Do you enjoy the freedom of working out in the community, never going into an office, having flexible hours, and helping others? Then working with OBI as a one-to-one Direct Support Professional (DSP) is the job for you! Interested candidates will need to be active in the community and enjoy assisting others in exploring their communities and accessing activities of interest. There are varying hours for this position, which can be full-time or part-time.

“Christy” is a very friendly, articulate, and compassionate young lady who lives in Edgewater, Maryland. She is looking for someone to assist her Monday through Friday as she participates in community activities. Christy enjoys taking classes at Anne Arundel Community College, going swimming, and making wreaths that she donates to local charities. Because of her disabilities, she needs someone to assist her with her mobility and physical tasks, and she would like help in finding volunteer and/or paid employment opportunities. She generally prefers daytime supports, but someone with the flexibility to work later on days when she may be in class, would be a bonus!

Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 1 year experience working with people with intellectual and developmental disabilities (may include personal experience from having a family member or member(s) with a disability) preferred.

  • High School diploma or GED required.

  • Valid Driver’s license with no more than 3 points on record, at least 1 year of driving experience.

  • Valid vehicle insurance with OBI’s required minimum coverage.

  • Vehicle that meets OBI safety standards to transport participants.

  • Ability to perform and meet job and physical requirements, based on the needs of the individual being supported.

  • Ability to enter required documentation into agency database and state’s billing system.

  • Ability to use basic data-entry, email, and telephonic technology.

  • Able to perform with autonomy, as well as in a team-oriented environment.

  • Effective problem-solving skills.
