Hiring Salary Range: $45,493.00 - $53,205.00

Work Hours/Days: 6:30 am - 3:00 pm Monday-Friday; some evenings/weekends required

Po sition is to address daily, ongoing minor repairs and to perform routine preventive maintenance across the City's parks system. It is responsible for maintaining park facilities (examples include but are not limited to: shelters, courts, restrooms and other park amenities such as playgrounds, water fountains, light fixtures, sinks, grills, etc.). This position may be responsible for the hauling and operation of equipment including but not limited to skid steers, excavators, and tractors for grading, landscape construction projects, playground installations, vegetation management, etc.

Position may also be responsible for minor repairs and routine maintenance for small engines in park maintenance equipment (blowers, mowers, weed eaters, etc.) This is accomplished by overseeing regular and emergency maintenance, responding to customer requests, and making skilled repairs. Other duties may include leading the work of semi-skilled and unskilled workers, getting price quotes, completing special projects and assignments, handling moving requests, assisting with special events and 24-Hour Emergency (On-call) Response.

Duties/Responsibilities

  • Operating construction equipment including, but not limited to backhoes, excavators, dump trucks, front-end loaders, rollers, compactors.

  • Maintaining municipal buildings, park amenities and facilities (i.e. playgrounds, picnic shelters, spray grounds, bathrooms, etc.).

  • Making minor plumbing repairs on park restrooms; repairing underground piping on irrigation systems servicing pumps; and soldering water lines.

  • Repairing and installing fences.

  • Performing carpentry, concrete or masonry work; painting, welding, sheet-rocking

  • Assisting with preventative maintenance of building systems.

  • Performing preventative maintenance on tools and small engine equipment.

  • Operate light to heavy equipment for landscape maintenance and construction projects including excavation, hauling, and rough and finish grading.

Minimum Qualifications & Experience

  • High School Diploma or equivalent (GED, HiSet, TASC).

  • Four years of equipment operation, or technical repair experience in areas related to assignment.

  • Valid North Carolina Class A-CDL with a satisfactory driving record.

Additional Preferred Skills

  • General construction, and small engine maintenance and repair, building trades (carpentry, plumbing, or electrical) experience.

  • Willing to work a flex schedule to include some holidays, evenings, and weekends.

  • Willing to work in inclement weather.

  • Experience using a smart phone.
