The Associate Director of Business Intelligence will be responsible for providing strategic direction and support to the commercial business. This individual will utilize business knowledge and data to influence business decisions across the commercial business within US Animal Health.

This role will lead the development of innovative and next generation insight services through use of dashboards, ad-hoc visualizations, and other emerging technologies. The incumbent will partner closely with marketing, finance, supply chain, and sales. The position holder frames, investigates and answers key business questions related to our products and the markets in which they compete, as well as our customers and competitors. This role will drive thought leadership by managing analytic problem-solving in collaboration with commercial teams, cross functional team members and vendors to address strategic questions, generate timely and actionable insights and recommendations, and secure management action through influential communication.

The AD, Business Intelligence will take ownership for creation of analytical content to be shared with key stakeholders including local and global senior and executive leadership. This position is critical to ensure that BI utilizes a wide array of reliable analytics techniques to deliver data-driven Sales and Marketing intelligence. Specific areas of focus include working with the solutions and data delivery team to deliver and optimize solutions for data transparency, aligning data visualization and analytics capabilities with business goals, transforming data into knowledgeable information, and delivering actionable visual insights, to the right people, at the right time, to enable the business to make more of the right decisions.

Duties & Responsibilities

Project/ Business Initiative Leadership:

  • Directs cross functional strategic initiatives related to data quality and integrity, leads and executes data investigations, and recommends process improvements across governed processes.

  • Provides strategic direction that will lead to improved operating efficiencies and enhanced user experience.

  • Proactively identifies and resolves issues.

  • Builds relationships with stakeholders.

  • Influences stakeholders and business partners to support vision and solutions for team.

Communication:

  • Presents and facilitates meetings adapting content to the different audiences.

  • Establishes open, transparent communication on a one-on-one basis.

  • Manages different stakeholders and influences behaviors related to the use of the information by communicating success, concerns, risks, and status updates on related work.

  • Collaborates with peers to share learnings, core processes, systems, and best practices.

  • Cultivates teamwork by facilitating cross department communication.

  • Communicates issues or outages as outlined in the Data Governance program utilizing a data steward alert.

  • Resolves disputes and conflict by having challenging conversations while maintaining composure.

  • Influences individuals and teams to agreement on potentially divisive topics.

  • Understands and empathizes with disparate groups to achieve alignment on the best course of action forward for the business.

Business Intelligence:

KPIs -

  • Manages the development, standardization, automation, and delivery of Key Commercial Operations Performance Indicators.

  • Partners with analysts in gathering/refreshing requirements from Commercial Operations and Commercial Excellence.

  • Develops and delivers KPI delivery platforms to include static slides and spreadsheets as well as interactive, live dashboards using an array of tools to include Tableau, PowerBI, etc.

Reports -

  • Consolidates, standardizes, validates, automates, and maintains the standard suite of business-critical reports.

  • Defines best data and reporting stabilization methodologies and influence/execute on best practices for data storage, recall, cleansing, and merging for use in KPI reporting. Requires knowledge of cloud and/or server-based data storage platforms like Amazon Web Services, Hadoop distributions, etc.

Dashboards -

  • Drives the development and publishing of interactive dashboards. This includes providing structural and content guidelines in accordance with industry best practices.

Analysis -

  • Partners with business to understand objectives and the types of analyses that are necessary to support those objectives.

  • Identifies and escalates resource needs for critical Commercial Operations data analyses (e.g., market opportunity and customer targeting).

  • Regularly consults Commercial Operations on data, reporting, and insights to understand and interpret their needs for Commercial Excellence.

  • Prepares and presents concise, actionable insights based on these interactions.

  • Regularly consults IT partners to maintain alignment on tool platforms.

  • Acts as a conduit to translate Commercial Operations requirements for reporting to robust, sustainable IT platforms with optimized levels of data integrity.

  • Regularly consults and collaborates with all verticals of Commercial Excellence, provides insights to other teams as needed and gathers requirements from those teams to inform analyses.

Desired Skills, Experience and Abilities

Additional Duties & Responsibilities:

3rd Party Data Insights -

Leads and manages projects to merge internal data with 3rd party data to inform Commercial Operations on market conditions and market opportunities.

Business Subject Matter Expert:

Drives and challenges business units on their assumptions of how they will successfully execute their strategy.

Facilitates the communication and translation of business user requirements and solutions between the customer community (internal and external customers) and internal IT.

Diagnoses problems and understands business needs.

Strategic Projects:

Specific projects this role will lead include but are not limited to: US AH Tableau Server Roll-Out, Data Merging and Consolidation Definitions and Plan, US AH Onboarding in to Global/Enterprise Data Lake, and Consultant Functions to Data Governance.

Directs projects or sub teams as needed to execute objectives.

Creates and implements a project contract or charter or plan to include but are not limited to executive summary, objectives, scope, timeline, milestones, deliverables, organization, impacts, benefits, cost, assumptions, risks, and leadership approvals.

Utilizes agile project methodology to include kick off, requirements, alpha, beta, final review, and user acceptance testing.

Defines and articulates the business benefit of respective project.

Designs change management and communication plans across functional teams for any respective assigned project.

Regulatory:

Performs all Company business in accordance with all regulations (e.g., EEO, FDA, OSHA, PDMA, EPA, PhRMA, etc.) and Company policies and procedures.

Reports all violations immediately to management.

Documents observations and provides information to management as necessary.

Demonstrates high ethical and professional standards with all business contacts and BI employees

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Business Intelligence, Data Visualization, Data Science, or equivalent field is required; Master’s Degree Preferred.

  • Seven-plus (7+) years’ experience in a related role.

  • Demonstrated experience in systems and processes, creating and executing user experience (training, communication and continual improvement) within sales force or related systems, project management, process improvement, preferably within the Pharmaceutical Industry.

  • Demonstrated understanding and ability to apply principles, concepts, practices, and standards including knowledge and use of Animal Health or Pharma data and working knowledge of industry practices.

  • Demonstrated ability to communicate ideas, facts, and technical information clearly and concisely to senior management, as well as other internal customers both verbally and written.

  • Demonstrated excellent communication and presentation skills and ability to work with other disciplines.

  • Ability to train user groups and key stakeholders.

  • Demonstrated ability to identify and analyze problems, evaluate alternatives, and implement effective solutions.

  • Demonstrated ability to effectively manage multiple priorities and coordinate efforts with colleagues from several functional areas.

  • Ability to work independently with a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail in the fast-paced environment.

  • Familiarity with modern visualization frameworks, such as Gephi, Processing, R and/or D3.js.

  • Proficiency in visualization and analytic tools including Tableau, PowerBI, and Snowflake.

  • Sharp analytical abilities and proven design skills.

  • A strong understanding of typography and how it can affect visualizations as well as layout, space and an inherent feel for motion.

  • Models willingness to learn and stay up to date.

  • Effective analytical and problem-solving skills.

  • History of successful performance.

  • Must achieve results in a highly matrixed organization.

  • Requires working with IT on system improvements and execution.

  • Responsible for several large-scale projects and/or programs.

  • Ability to travel (may include overnight travel).
