Job Description

Are you a self-motivated, resourceful, and confident individual with a positive attitude and strong ethical standards? If so, join our team to help return unclaimed property to its rightful owners or their heirs! Michigan Unclaimed Property is the custodian of unclaimed (abandoned) property for the State of Michigan and works to reunite that property with its rightful owner or the owners’ heirs, upon proof of ownership.

This position serves as the first-line supervisor of staff processing claims for property owners, assists claimants when difficult situations call for escalation, as well as provides guidance and determinations to all staff when questions regarding rightful ownership arise. This position also works closely with the unclaimed property auditor to identify and protect against fraudulent transactions.

The perfect candidate will have positive experience with multi-tasking, setting priorities, training staff and delegating duties. Familiarity with Michigan’s Uniform Unclaimed Property Act is a plus. This position also requires excellent organizational and analytical skills, as these are essential to contributing to the success of our team.

Required Education and Experience

Education

Educational level typically acquired through completion of high school.

Experience

Four years of office experience involving administrative support office practices, including two years equivalent to an E7-level administrative support worker.

Work must be performed in the state of Michigan. If you currently reside outside of Michigan, you must relocate to Michigan to perform the duties of this position. Relocation expenses are not reimbursed.

This position is eligible for remote work up to five days per week with required occasional onsite work. Selected candidate must have a safe and appropriate designated workspace or workstation for performance of work and secure and sufficient internet access of commercial cable or wireless broadband with minimum speeds of 25 Mbps download and 5 Mbps upload.

Vacation and Sick Leave:Eligible full-time employees receive between15 and 35 personal daysand13 sick daysper year that may be rolled over to the following year if not used. Eligible employees also receive an additional day each year for community service or school functions.

Paid Parental Leave:Eligible employees can take12 weeks of paid leaveimmediately after a birth or adoption to allow needed time together at home with a new child.

Paid Holidays:Eligible employees receive 13 or 14 paid holidays each year including New Year’s Eve and Day, Martin Luther King Jr. Day, Presidents’ Day, Memorial Day, Juneteenth, the Fourth of July, Labor Day, Election Day, Veterans Day, Thanksgiving, Thanksgiving Friday, Christmas Eve and Day.
